West Bloomfield district warns about student plan to bring avocados to school

https://www.clickondetroit.com...g-avocados-to-school

WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - West Bloomfield School District leaders are warning parents about a plan organized by students to bring avocados to Abbott Middle School on Friday.

Here is the letter Thursday sent to parents:

For some strange reason many students have organized a plan to bring AVOCADOS to school tomorrow (this has included posting signs around the school as well). Harmless but we are unsure why. We would appreciate your help to keep your avocados at home.

Avocados brought to school that create a disturbance in school will be taken from students and the office staff will be making the biggest dish of guacamole ever! Smile

Thank you for your help. I know--middle school, right? We can't make this stuff up! But at least it will be Friday!

So there you have it: Prepare for the biggest dish of guacamole "ever" if these kids break the rules and bring a bunch of avocados to school.

Avocados are one of the best things about California. Guacamole being high on that list as well. I can see where other states and communities would be weary. Avocados are an odd looking fruit.

At least the school seems to have a sense of humor about it. I'm horrified by the thought of that many avocados--they're just awful! Smile

Isn't this just a case of making a mountain out of a Mole?

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

But only the avocados that cause trouble.

The peaceful avocados have no reason to worry.

I can actually respect this. My wife is highly allergic to avocado to the point where I shop for produce to mitigate the risk. It may be a situation where the school has one or multiple children with a known allergy and decided to send out a mass mailing instead of only to the parent(s) of the children with the allergy.
As this is an allergy that most people don’t think of I can see how it could be overlooked by the students and staff involved.

Kids pretend to plan on bringing avocados complete with flyers and lots of talk. Adults hear and freak the fuck out. Adults issue to plea to not allow kids to bring avocados. Kids laugh at stupid adults.

Me, too! (I don't like avocados or guacamole.) I confess that I don't understand why the school is so uptight about it, though.
