The more potential victims there are, the safer for those who are situationally aware.

Many years ago I was leaving a grocery store at 11pm or so. The lot was almost empty but since I had just bought a new car a few days prior I parked a bit out in the lot past the cart corrals. I was in my own world walking out to my car and when I was halfway between it and the store I happened to notice two cars parked on either side of mine and 4-5 gangbager types hanging out looking into my car. As I approached one of them noticed me and I heard him tell his friends, "there he is, that's him".
No idea of who they thought I was other than the dude they were about to car jack. As 2 of them started up like they were going to come towards me I turned and fanned out my jacket like I was clearing a pistol (I was unarmed) and kept my hand on my belt where one would be and stood my ground.
My ruse worked because they all jumped into their cars and split. That was the event that taught me that I couldn't simply rely on being a young scrappy male that could box his way out of any problem. Those guys could have killed me and worse is that they'd then have my car with house keys and a garage door opener and my home address where my wife and daughters were sleeping.

The next day I started the application process for my carry permit. And during my research of what a good carry gun would be I discovered a very helpful online gun forum. Cool

I see this all the time. If I were a thief, I would dress nicely and prowl upscale grocery stores in nice neighborhoods.

try parking 9 spaces out side of a big box store for an hour,
and count the number of people
that wander around looking for their car,

or
how many women leave their purse in the cart while loading up the groceries in to the car.

I snagged a couple of folding crates at Costco the other day. They sped up the loading process and kept the groceries from getting scattered in the trunk. If a booger is gonna get me now, he better be quick. Smile
