My wife is the primary audio-video person for her Bible study group. They record the weekly lecture for uploading to a website viewing by members who couldn’t make the lecture and for viewing by a satellite location/group the next night.

They’ve been using my older iPad and have gotten another similar vintage iPad donated as a backup.

Last year she got the bugs worked out, and things went fairly smoothly. This year, both iPads have glitched randomly. So I’m thinking an upgrade donation might be in order.

What recommendation do y’all have for dedicated video cameras? I don’t have the first clue as what brands, price points, capability etc. would be optimum. With the iPads it’s .mov format and otherwise.mp4.

I’m not worried about chinesium issues, if it’s on Amazon, and inexpensive I’ll deal with any warranty issues.

GoPro? Not 'cheap' but should be reliable.
May be able to go a generation or two back & get a better price.

I would look for a used iPhone. If they are already using an iPad they are probably using the Apple freeware iMovie to edit and create the video for YouTube publishing. GoPro is good, but their battery like I found to be rather dismal, and was a pain to get the videos onto my iPad to edit.
You can easily shoot a video on an iPhone and directly upload to YouTube. No editing required unless you wish to.

My wife does all our outdoor video recording. The iPhone is by far superior quality and ease of use over anything we have tried.

Maybe you can have the pastor ask if anyone has an unused iPhone they would be willing to donate. I’ve had a few in the past that I gifted to friends. If I had one, I would offer it to you.

Go Pro or the Sony equivalent.
Get the tool to do the job properly and don't cheap out or you will be sorry.

Thanks, we have a couple of older iPhones. We’ll take a look at using. Brainstorming with my wife we have isolated one variable on the iPads is their latest software update for the iPad versions we’re using. We may downgrade to the previous version and see what happens on one iPad vs. the other.

Just remember, the cameras on most iPads are generally inferior to the camera setup on iPhones. I was going to suggest getting a fairly recent iPhone to use (Craigslist, Pawn shop, Farcebook Marketplace) given you're already familiar with IOS having used the older iPad.
