Solar car battery rechargers??
I do not have access to a garage and still need to trickle charge a car battery. Found solar panels that you can put on the dash and plug into the cigarette lighter, designed to trickle thru the cigarette lighter.

Question - will that work? In my mis-spent youth, all cigarette lighters were still connected to the battery even if keys were not in the ignition and car was totally buttoned up. BUT... I don't know if that standard has changed. Different for each manufacturer? I'm thinking about an 2010 Lexus car and 2022 Honda pickup

It is very likely that these are power outlets, only hot when the ignition is in accessory or run position, not actual cigarette lighters that are hot all the time. My own car (2009 Corolla) has neither lighters nor even an ash tray. Easy enough to check.

These days, I’m pretty sure you need to hook it up directly to the battery/along with putting in a cut off

Battery Tender makes one. It has a built in charge control so it is a very simple plug and play.
I would suggest running directly to the battery.

Some have had luck charging through the OBDII since it is always hot on all vehicles but my OBDII is always occupied.

However the OBDII are only capable of 3 amps.
Direct to the battery should be 7-7.5 amps. A quick disconnect to the battery through the firewall should be easy enough.
