I have been dealing with psoriasis since the 70's. Always kept it under control with topical meds. Compared to some people I have had it pretty good. It has exploded recently and dermatologists are booking three to six months out.So many new meds out there topical, oral and IV. Most with questionable side effects. What have you folks had success with?

Yes many things out there now. Many with years of being used now.
Humira, Embrel and many many more. They call many of them Biologic's. Injections and some oral. You will need to talk with your doctor. All require a prescription.

stelara
Tremfya
Coesyntex
Cimzia
The list is long

Topicals provide minimal relief compared to things being developed to help suffers today.

I hope you find the right one to help you.

Biologics are an absolute game changer for skin diseases. I have severe eczema. Dupixent makes it almost 100% manageable, without steroids. There's quite a few for psoriasis as mentioned.

Coincidentally, This also lowers your gluten consumption of U.S. wheat which seems to be higher than euro wheat.
My buddy just switched to a gluten reduction diet and is doing better and he says his skin also is doing better. Also, his asthma.
I've been doing sourdough which breaks down lots of the gluten problems but for now he's focusing on a stricter diet.

For about seven years now I've been taking Dupixent to treat eczema and it's been a game changer. It's a biologic injection, the side-effects aren't as harmful and severe as steroidal medications which was the go-to medications for skin issues. I no longer have to use heavy creams to moisturize and my skin shows zero issues of a condition. The advent of these new biologic medications I've found to be much more effective minus the side-effects of past treatment options, ask your dermatologist about what's available and if you can start.

On Enbrel for pushing a decade now. Rheumatoid Arthritis.

A few decades ago I'd have pretzels for hands by now. I am almost entirely symptom free. Autoimmune diseases like PA and RA are well treated now.

These meds are NOT cheap. Make sure you have good med coverage before you get the script.

I have had psoriasis for over 25 years. I was told that by my doctor that people that have Psoriasis have an over active super immune system that starts attacking itself. Biologics just lowers it to become normal. For now I refuse to take any of the Biologics. I used to have really bad scalp psoriasis and started taking the 2 times a day Otezla which cleared my scalp P but I still have some patches on my body. I use a combination of the following:

  • Triscinolone (requires prescription)
  • Dovonex(requires prescription)
  • Psoriasin ointment which contains 2% coal tar
  • Cerave cleanser which contains salicylic acid
  • Lots of good lotion

Winter gets really bad where my back is always itchy and have a Dollar Tree back scratcher all over my home, cars and office. If I travel I make sure to have at 1 or 2 extendable ones with me. I find diet play a big part. If I cut down on carbs and sugar it seems to go down. This is my experience I hope it helps. God Bless Smile

I have plaque psoriasis with psoriatic arthritis. My condition is controlled but not eliminated by a combination of Humira and methotrexate with topicals for skin outbreaks which are not too bad now that I am on the MTX and Humira.

Both Humira and MTX have side effects and require monitoring by blood tests and a yearly TB test. I have done well side effect wise but you need to stay on top of your lab tests and be in good communication with your doctor.

Best of luck,

Mike (Molecular Biologist / Immunologist)
