Greetings all. SigForum has provided appreciated knowledge and help in securing information regarding my father’s service records, but I am wondering if anyone has knowledge about how, or if the DoD has records on me, and if so, how can I get a copy. Here’s the skinny: I grew up at and on Ft. Bragg / Pope Air Force Base. So most to all of my medical records of youth could be scattered between Okinawa to Bragg. My question is does anyone know if the DoD keeps dependent medical records - including dental? And if they do how can I get a copy? Much appreciated your thoughts and experiences. ========================================== Just my 2¢ ____________________________ Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right ♫♫♫

I'm not sure how it is now but when I retired from the Army in 1995, all medical records are culled and destroyed after 5 years of inactivity. __________________________ "Para ser libre, un hombre debe tener tres cosas, la tierra, una educacion y un fusil. I would suggest reaching out to the V.A. I realize you were a dependent, but they may have some answers. Maybe the .mil does it differently, but in the US healthcare system, we have to retain records for kids long after their 18th birthday. I want to say 8 years (off the top of my head). Varies a bit by state I think. Anything before electronic records is probably going to be hard to get.

You might also ask your county veterans service officer... https://www.nacvso.org/find_se...ac-56061f573562.aspx "Cedat Fortuna Peritis"

A pal who used to work for the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) said this and provided a link with more info: They are filed by where the treatment happened. So apparently the dependent, serviceman, spouse, etc needs to know where. If you need dentals stuff for things done at FT Braggs clinic or Ft Sam Houston's hospital, it will be in separate places... It will take submitting a good old SF-180. https://www.archives.gov/perso...ords-veterans-access "As the NPRC files most clinical records and medical treatment records by the name of the last hospitalizing or treatment facility, requesters must provide the following information: Name and Location of the last hospitalizing (inpatient clinical records) or treatment facility (outpatient health records): usually this is the last facility at which treatment was provided. The Year of hospitalization or last treatment and the Type of treatment (inpatient, outpatient, dental, mental health, etc.). If you need copies of specific records, please be sure to state the type of illness, injury or treatment involved. The patient's Full Name used during treatment. The patient's Social Security Number and Status (specify: veteran, retiree, dependent of military, federal employee or other) during treatment. If the patient is/was a dependent: the Military Sponsor's Name and the Sponsor's Service Number and/or Social Security Number."

I can tell you from my VA health record request adventures- be prepared to file the SAME record request more than once. It took me seven (7) years to get the max amount of health records I was able to attain. (And I was still missing pages I knew had to exist). A number of the times I received a completely different page I had never seen before.
