Been looking at dozens of HDMI cables. All I want is a good quality, 6 foot, HDMI 2 cable that supports 4K@120Hz (8K a plus for future proofing).

Can't find one from a known branded company (not some no name fly by night PRC crap) sold by a solid dealer (ie - I can find Monster but only sold by fly by night vendors). Many of the products that are supposed to support my requirements have very mixed reviews.

Any first hand experience recommendations - brand / model?

I just use Monoprice. Good price and lifetime warranty.

They are a little pricey though, this one will set you back $14.

Monoprice.

Every HDMI cable is made in China, and Monster is the biggest ripoff in the industry.

You don't need "special" HDMI cables any more than you need "special" ethernet cable. If it meets the spec it meets the spec, just get the spec you need.

In my experience the Monoprice thin HDMI cables work fine for 4K/60 with Dolby Vision. The highest speed certified ones with the active buffer circuit didn't work as well and would not pass the Apple TV cable test. Never had one fail either, so for a few bucks you can't go wrong. Note that I only use 2m cables or shorter.

Not sure why you need 120 Hz as there is no source material at that refresh rate that I am aware of, unless that is for gaming which I don't do.

Blue Jeans Cable is probably the only boutique vendor to look at.

Thanks guys.

Don't really need 120Hz but as long as I was buying and the price is only incremental, I figured having a cable w/ some built in headroom is not bad. Knowing that most of this type of shit is made in PRC and in the absence of reliable brands, I try to buy a little headroom when I can.

I would have bought the MP 8K cable for a few dollars more if they were in stock.

Add another. I have 5 4k panels, all the HDMI cables on all of them are Monoprice.

I order the Amazon Basic cables.
HDMI (digital) either work or don't.
Agree, Monster is a huge rip-off!

I have an AudioQuest HDMI cable that I got at Best Buy when I worked there.

Retail price is $80.

My employee price was about $15. Don't spend any more than that on an HDMI cable.

Of course, you could also go this route:

Ive never paid attention to a brand of HDMI. As long as it meets the specs or version I need I buy it.

HDMI is digital...the signal makes it or it doesn't especially when dealing with relatively short distances.

Monster is living off their reputation from the analog days when signal degradation and interference were real serious problems.

Last times I bought HDMI cables I think one was Monoprice and the other Amazon Basics. They both worked fine. Wasn't doing 4K, though.

If you really want a better cable, then Blue Jeans Cable is the place to go.

Two of our Apple TV 4K's that were acquired with CC reward points came with SuperSonic brand 6' HDMI cables. One is in use on an LG 4K TV and seems to be working fine.

The first assertion is untrue. Poor or incorrect HDMI cabling can indeed cause issues short of outright failure.

The second assertion is true, IMO, and has always been--even back in analog days.

Yeah... Monster Cables have ALWAYS been a mediocre (at best) product with good advertising, good branding, and a price tag at least four times what it should be.

Years ago, I think it was CNET who tested HDMI high end HDMI cables and cheap ones at Monoprice. There was no difference in signal quality.

Monoprice is a great company. Not only do I buy my HDMI cables there but I buy my TV mounting hardware and audio cables there. I've also bought a lot of Z-Wave sensors there as well. They have an extensive inventory and a great website.

Monoproce for A/V cabling and mounts/stands. Good quality, better prices, with actual specs listed out so you don't have to guess.
