How do you discuss the topic of gender fluidity with your kids?
It depends upon how "real" the discussion is. I was the oldest of 4 brothers. #2 is now my brister, much to my dismay. This occurred when my kids were 8 and 12, and they wanted to know what happened to Uncle xxx, why is he dressing like a girl, long hair, boobs, etc.

So, I told them what happened, and they accepted xxx as their "ankle", not uncle and not aunt.

The tough part for them (and me) is "she" has a girlfriend - not a boyfriend. Too fukkin weird for me, but my kids were okay with it.

Males have different gender fluid than females. Go to sleep now, son.

I agree, but many posters here seem unwilling to acknowledge that what I described exists.

You are confusing a couple of issues here.

First OP's question, how do you discuss it with your children. The answer was in the very first post by Balzé.

Other than that according to Bama's numbers that is 972 people. That's it. I did some other googling and came up with numbers of 1/2000. So it's likely somewhere between the two numbers, but I'd err closer to NIH then Wiki. So while true genetic disorders do exist, that is not what we are talking about.

A hermaphrodite is not Gender Fluid, their gender is right there in the X's and Y's. It may be confusing on how to classify them and they may have confusion in their life as how to classify themselves, but my guess is that gender is not a moving target for them that changes with the wind.

A transsexual on the other hand is a completely different beast. I don't care if they wear panties or briefs, or what music they listen to either for that matter. Now if they want to force their lifestyle on my children or make them listen to ultra violent gansta rap then I have a problem.

Kids should not be indoctrinated to think this is normal by their schools, PERIOD. That is exactly what that video was and if my kid was forced to sit through that I would throw such a shitstorm I'd never be allowed back into the school again.

This brings up another issue. I am about as tolerant as can be and would have no problem making friends with a transsexual or a hermaphrodite if we shared common goals, values, and interests. Tolerance is completely different than acceptance or trying to make a fringe thing mainstream. I would tell my kids to respect another human no matter how crazy or weird their beliefs are. That does not mean they have to accept it as true or valid.

When you say "kids", I don't know what age group you are thinking of. There is a huge difference between "kids" who are 5 and "kids" who are 15. My impression is that you are concerned about little kids, and what Para said is right on the mark: you don't discuss this any more than you would discuss quantum physics with them. It is way over their heads, and not something they would think about on their own-- or, unless forced to think about it by adults.

You keep things simple for kids. It is a developmental necessity. Boys have penises, girls have vaginas. Good people are rewarded, bad people are punished. They will learn about moral complexity when they are ready for it, and they will learn about sexual complexity when they are ready for it.

What Bama said is also an important point: We are talking about a very tiny sliver of the population when we talk about "gender fluidity." 972 individuals in a population of 300 million. The progressives/socialists have turned this into a bat with which to beat over the head those on the right.

A boy wearing a dress in first grade? Bad parenting at a minimum, approaching child abuse. More than likely we have a parent that wished they had a girl, and are thus projecting and encouraging this kind of behavior tomfoolery. Using their own children to make a point.

lesbian parents. one is ok with it, one is not.

besides the obvious issues in that household, the problem I see most is people who have been shamed by society into believing that EVERYTHING is ok, there are no moral absolutes. and because of this they are terrified of being the worst thing in the world... the big, bad I-word... intolerant. So when they see a boy who plays with a doll or wears mommies' bracelet (like all boys inevitably do at times) or a girl who just wants to play ball with the boys, instead of thinking, "haha kids are funny sometimes" they run as far away from intolerant as they can and they actually enable and encourage those things, assuming (wrongly) that they must be signs of "gender fluidity," whatever the heck that really means.

That would be 1.8%. You need to multiply by .00018.

Yep there is a match error there. 300x1.8 = 540, no matter where you put the decimal point the number will have a 54 in it.

300,000,000 x .00018 = 54,000

I derped it after Skins post I re-did it a couple of times and it comes out 54,000. The point still remains - you don't set policy in a country of 300 million based on something that affects .0018% of the population. Hell, at least 54 million would be in favor of a flat tax or a Fair tax and we can't even get that! Big Grin

I agree, but many posters here seem unwilling to acknowledge that what I described exists.

I know it exists as well, I've watched the medical documentaries, regarding exactly what you said about the timing of the hormones in the uterus. I used to think the other extreme as some have already expressed, but if they're scientific minded, they can see the easy to understand medical explanation. If they reject the science (the real science, not the same kind of science as climate change etc), they they're closing their eyes to reality. It IS possible to have dissonance between science and religion, and you have to come up with a way to live with both, even if they are 100% opposed. It sounds crazy, but when you've studied these things long enough, you will find lots of things in life that are diametrically opposed but still both true. If we understood everything perfectly, we would be God himself. Anyone who rises to that level of opinion may be exceeding the nature of his own humanity.

What you guys are talking about is a medical condition called intersex. It's a tiny percentage of the population that is biologically affected by this condition.

What the original poster is talking about is the concept of 'gender fluidity' which is a social construct saying that your gender can fluctuate on a day to day basis.

You're talking about apples and Porsches.
