And THAT was a ball game! Freeman for the game winning homer! 6-5 Dodgers in 18 innings.

Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

Freddie Fucking Freeman!! Pretty amazing game overall.

I had a 2 hour nap during the game, woke up and watched innings 15-18. Freddie Freeman is now a World Series legend.

Ohtani pitches tonight. I think he's the best player in 100 years since Babe Ruth and maybe the best ever. Yes, I said what I said.

Dodgers Announce Historic Shohei Ohtani News During World Series Game 3

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced two-way star Shohei Ohtani's 12 total bases in Monday's Game 3 are a franchise World Series record.

Ohtani hit his second home run of the night in the seventh inning to tie the matchup at five against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Dodgers superstar is 4-for-4 with two doubles thus far in World Series Game 3.

Moreover, Ohtani is the only player in postseason history with at least one pitching start and multiple home runs in a single postseason. Ohtani and Babe Ruth are the only players with multiple pitching starts and more than two home runs hit in their postseason careers.

Ruth has 15 home runs and three games started, while Ohtani has 11 home runs and two starts in the playoffs.

Ohtani's last seven at-bats at Dodger Stadium have included five home runs and two doubles. While Ohtani's heroics at the plate have been nothing short of spectacular, he is set to start Game 4 of the World Series on the mound.

The Dodgers two-way star displayed his greatness in the National League Championship Series, a performance that featured three home runs and six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts from Ohtani.

Ahead of Ohtani's NLCS Game 4 performance, he had struggled mightily at the plate.

Nevertheless, Ohtani's postseason slump seems behind him as he continued to make history in Game 3 Monday night at Dodger Stadium.

"I do feel better at the plate recently, so in that sense, it's been good overall," Ohtani said earlier in the series.

Games 4 and 5 of the Fall Classic will be played at Dodger Stadium, and if need be, the series will head back to Toronto for Games 6 and 7. Ohtani will take the mound and serve as the Dodgers' designated hitter Tuesday at Chavez Ravine, and there's no telling what the two-way star will do.

As a giants fan I will not root for the dodgers. However that was an amazing game. If I’m the blue jays I’m just walking Ohtani. Treat him like Barry bonds, walk him ever at bay. walk him with bases loaded I don’t care. He’s just too good and jays will lose if they keep pitching to him.

Ohtani is a ridiculous athlete. Yes, one of the best ever. On base 9 times in one game? That's crazy. Dodger are much fitter than Blue Jays overall, that could be part of the difference in this series if the Dodgers win.

The relay throw out at the plate to end the inning for the Blue Jays, I wonder if that player was as fit as most of the Dodgers if he could have been safe.

EDIT: Last good hitting pitcher I remember was Hall of Famer Steve Carlton and Ohtani is 84 points better.

Do you remember Rick Wise? Also pitched for the Phillies. In 1971 he no-hit the Big Red Machine (Rose, Bench, Morgan, Perez, Concepcion, etc.) and hit two homers in the same game.

The Ohtani worship is getting to be a bit much IMO

By the way the announcers were sucking up to him you think he had cured cancer after hitting his home runs last night

Forget PED's, I think this guy needs to be checked that he's not actually some sort of highly sophisticated advanced Japanese android!

Blue Jays also got screwed by this amateur hour shit that changed the entire outcome of that game last night. I'm telling you, the biggest justification for the coming robot umpires is coming from these umpires themselves. Their incompetence and bias is going to end their jobs as we know it:

This is totally on the base runner for being too far off the bag. You can’t assume a call is going to go a certain way.

I’ll also defend the umpires some here- it’s a hard job. These analysts have slo-motion cameras to break down the pitch locations and can compare ball paths driving pitch to the other, and like in this situation, show how 2 pitches in different innings are called differently. In the moment though, they have to make a call on a baseball coming at them at 80-100 mph that they see a split second of. I’ve started umpiring little league and high school games. Even at those slower speeds it can be hard to judge the strike zone at times. There’s so much to pay attention to and you’re expected to see, and make a call based on your perception- 1 inch to the right and it’s a ball, one inch to the left it’s a strike. It’s crazy that people expect absolute perfection by umpires.

That being said, I’m in favor of the ABS system. It takes away one major source of human error in the game. I do see a lot of people though complain about the umpires but as the same time say they don’t want the ABS or roboumps because it takes the human element away from it. This makes no sense to me.

No hitting the Big Red Machine is impressive and so is the 2 homers.

I remember Rick Wise, but it was late career Rick Wise. My first memory of MLB was Mark "The Bird" Fidrych in 1976.

As a Giants fan and avowed Doyer hater, I don't like it.

These two need to stay in the same division.

Additionally the regional alignment wouldn't foster newer, deeper rivalries, IMO. These already exist between teams with shared geography.

I don't like it:
  • My lifelong team - the Tigers lose rivalries with KC and White Sox and will only play during interleague play.
  • My current city's team - the Astros get moved back to the NL and they've built their entire organization around having a DH (i.e. farm club and big league team built for DH).

Now to answer a few questions. I don’t like that potential league rearrangement. Leave it. The ABS system, I’m all for it. There’s just too many bad calls. As far as the announcers… Yes, the Joe Davis love especially for Ohtani is annoying. As far as I’m concerned WS games should be called by a neutral announcer. Fanboys and your regular season announcer ruin it for half of the audience. I had to suffer Joe Buck for too many years.
