I'm a medical rep and have daily meetings in hospitals with doctors etc (I wear a suit). I use the 5.11 Rush (black). I think it does the job pretty well and doesn't scream military wanna be or mall ninja. Lots of nice pockets, not over done, plenty of room, I use it for hiking as well.

I've had it for over a year and it still looks new, despite daily use.

Burton....I have a couple year old khaki colored Oakley pack you can have for shipping cost if you want it. Though it may have a mark or two on it from use, its in good shape and looks like this one....

Let me know if you'd like it.

I like osprey bags, I think something in the 20l range, look for their commuter bags as they will have laptop sleeves. I am an admitted Goruck fan and own several of their bags but the Molle and price of the GR1 or Echo bags might turn you off. A viable alternative would be the Evergoods bags, started by an original Goruck guy, they are loved on the EDC sites like Carryology and don’t have molle, in fact, I just pre ordered their new 22l bag and can’t wait till it gets here in Nov.

I have a Vertx EDC Ready Pack and find it to be the right size, has good compartments, is very well built, and is not tacticool. Here is a video and he also has a code for 25% off

I'd stick with technical outdoor brands, biggest reason is to be the Grey Man, blend in. Too many guys with 5.11 or other tactical brands already mark themselves.

Many thanks for multiple offers of bags!

I’m all set now, but this is another great example of why SigForum is the best place with the best people on the interwebz.

Mountainsmith. I carried one everywhere in the Forest Service: back of a truck, strapped to an ATV, in a pannier on a packhorse, stowed aboard a helicopter, and of course, on my back. It was my survival/hunting pack. I couldn’t ask for better.

Get a real pack. That is - a climbing/hiking pack without all the tacticool doodads. And - you'll find it to be much more comfortable and capable of bearing and balancing loads.

5.11 has their tan colored Havoc 30 packs on clearance for $55 with free shipping: https://www.511tactical.com/havoc-30-backpack.html

Similar size to their Rush 12, but with a less tacticool look.

This^^^

If you have a bunch of Molle gear you want to taccessorize, then I get why people want those bags, but Molle design comes at a cost, mainly in added weight. I know some guys will argue, "It's just a couple pounds. Don't be a pansy."

Yeah well, you feel that couple pounds if you wear it for hours on end. As Graniteguy posted, how well the pack fits and distributes the weight makes all the difference. It's similar to concealed carry. You may look at something that's only 5-6 oz heavier. Doesn't sound like much until you carry it on your belt all day.
