Not your typical Rapper... Kaseem Ryan, widely recognized in the hip-hop industry as Ka, has passed away at the age of 52. His family confirmed his sudden death, which took place in New York City on October 12, 2024. Both the Brooklyn, New York community and the wider underground rap scene have been affected by his loss. Born and bred in Brooklyn’s Brownsville district, Ka was a significant figure in the underground rap world. His music career started in the 90s with the group Natural Elements, and he made his solo debut with the album “Iron Works” in 2008. In his own words, Ka managed to balance music with his full-time job, maintaining a low profile. Beyond music, Ka served the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) for 20 years, where he held the rank of captain. He was on the frontline during the 9/11 attacks and continued to juggle his roles as a firefighter and a musician. In a 2013 interview, Ka said, “I never wanted to be ‘The Rapping Captain.’ I try to be a good firefighter. And when I come home, I try to make some dope music.” His final album, “The Thief Next to Jesus,” was released in September and showcased his unique style of blending raw narrative with intricate themes. Ka’s music has been frequently characterized by its gritty realism and deep introspection. Ka’s survivors include his mother, sister, and wife, Mimi Valdé, a prominent journalist and producer. Valdé has had a successful career, with roles such as editor-in-chief at VIBE and most recently a producer on Pharrell Williams’ new autobiographical film, “Piece By Piece.” It was reported that she shared a touching message on social media, expressing her unending love for her husband and her promise to meet him again. https://frontpagenewspaper.com...r-rapper-dies-at-52/ _________________________

I haven’t heard of him before, but listened to some tracks off of ‘Thief Next To Jesus’ after seeing your post. Good stuff, added to my playlist.
