Only butter mentioned in this thread that I’ve ever heard of is Land-O-Lakes. Googled Kerrygold to see what the package looks like. Never seen it, but it’s available on Amazon... Amazon?? How do they keep the butter cold during shipping and maybe a day or two sitting in a post office box?

If you have commissary access - ours carries it. Otherwise, look for a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's.

Another big upvote for Beurre de Isigny. Once you try this, you will re-think your opinions of the French people. If they make butter this good, they can't be all that bad!

Echire, another salted French butter, is also worth trying.

These are our favorites. They're all good. We tried to decide which is best can really can't pick one over the others. They're all easy to find around here. We buy Kerrygold most of the time since it's also available at Costco. Our neighborhood Winn-Dixie sells both of the Irish brands. President is a French brand, and it's available at Publix around here.

I've tried the last two, and they were just butter to me. I've did a blind (not really blind) taste test of Land o lakes, Food Lion brand, and Kerrygold. All pretty much the same with slight edge to Kerrygold if I had to pick a winner.

I've decided that as long as it is Grade AA butter it's good enough for me and I buy whatever is on sale or cheapest. If Kerrygold is on sale at close to store brand I get it, if not store brand tastes just fine to me. I usually use it for cooking anyways.

Kerrygold is typically what we have in our house for spreading on toast.

Sometimes we'll find "Summer Butter" from Nordic Creamery. It's only available April - October and is the best butter I've ever tasted.

If you want something that is really noticeably different, try cultured butter. It has a lot more flavor.

Same here.

I grew up on margarine. Butter was a treat.
It doesn't have to be French or Irish, I'm happy with locally produced butter.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

While I like Kerrygold, I will say that anything from the Lucerne or Tillamook creameries in Oregon has been excellent. Availability is probably not that great outside of the Pacific Northwest, so they surely won’t be an option for everyone. I’d give a slight edge to the Lucerne butter, and it’s what we keep in the fridge. For availability across the US, Kerrygold is the winner.

If you're just looking to butter your toast, Costco or, Trader Joe's house brand unsalted is fine. Just stay away from the anything sold in a tub...you're paying for 50% water Roll Eyes

Best butter I've had in the US is Le Beurre Bordier. Good luck finding it.

Kerry Gold is the most popular, they've blitzed the US with their marketing and clearly, by the responses on this board..it's worked. Big Grin

There's a lot of American producers, many of them small operations in dairy producing regions, I like Straus Family Creamery. They have a very high butter fat percentage and their cream I like for making ice cream.

President, is a popular French brand widely available here in the US.

If you can find Beurre de Baratte, another very awesome butter that finds its way outside of France.

Trader Joe's Cultured Butter is pretty good and doesn't have as strong a tang as some other cultured butters.

Speaking of butter... salted vs unsalted. As I understand it, centuries ago, they started adding salt to butter to lengthen the shelf life, even without refrigeration. Makes perfect sense since salt preserves many foods. Today, we really don't need salt as preservative since virtually everyone has access to dependable cold storage. But I guess people get hooked on the salty taste and of course the butter people are going to give the public what they want.

Many years ago I started reducing the amount of sodium in my diet. One of the things I switched was from salted to unsalted butter and today if I get some salted butter I really don't care for the taste. My wife on the other hand has to have her salted butter, especially when using as a stand alone spread. I always figured if I wanted a little salty taste on my multi grain toast with butter, a light shake of Pink Himalayan salt would take care of that.

Interesting that this thread has reached three pages. Real butter is all we use, and it’s all we’ve ever used; not sure what you’re referring to with respect to “negative health aspects.” Real is always better than chemistry lab.

I gave up bread, and therefore, toast, but we still have sourdough hotcakes on Sundays, and the occasional oatmeal/buttermilk (that’s real too) waffle. I guess I’m not as discerning as many who have responded. We’ve been buying unsalted Costco butter and it suits me just fine. Hope you find what you’re looking for.

Luceren is Safeway's store brand and is sold in Safeway stores on east coast. Tillamook is also sold in Safeways.

I think unsalted butter is awful, in fact I've been known to sprinkle a little EXTRA salt on my buttered toast that is made with salted butter.
