My usual butter has left me wanting after the last batch. I may try again but I'm open to options and recommendations from those of you who really love butter.

I've been using Clover Salted. Generally good with nice cream/butter taste. But the last batch (perhaps because it was the Organic label?) was rather bland.

I don't care about (negative) health aspects of butter. I don't indulge gluttonously. But when I eat butter (on toast, on pancakes, etc), I want it to be rich, creamy, bursting with buttery goodness.

Any recommendations for something that is commonly available in supermarkets (out West)? Big brands (either US or European - Irish seems common in the local market if that's good).

I would think that butter from a local creamery would be among the better choices.

Cook's Illustrated liked Lurpak (Danish) best in their test. I've seen it in grocery stores before, but I'm not sure how common it is.

Kerrygold (Irish) and Plugra (US, but "European style") are very good and pretty widely stocked.

All three of those come in an 8 oz rectangular slab rather than the common US 4 oz stick.

The best butter I think I've ever gotten in the US is Vermont Creamery (which is stocked in fancy grocery stores). It comes in a big round log.

European and European-style butters tend to have more fat and less water than American butter. This is off the top of my head, but my recollection is that basic American butter is usually about 80-82% fat, and European or European-style is about 82-84% fat. Vermont Creamery is 86%.

They have one with corse salt crystals in it. The butter and the salt come from Normandy region of France. Normandy salts are my favorite

I've weened myself to just a quarter pound per month. While always a "brand name" type of guy, reaching for Land'O'Lakes in my youth, I've lately bought Breakstone's ½ pound 2-stick box when on sale.

Butter for toast? I like Skippy peanut butter. Yeah, I know that’s not what you’re looking for, but I couldn’t resist. Smile

And it’s actually what I put on my toast, along with Marmite. Delicious – tastes better to me than any cake.

Lots of votes for Kerrygold. I’ll look for break man but doesn’t sound familiar - not sure I’ve seen that around here.

Yup. This.

Kerrygold is what my French wife buys. And she's from Brittany, who are notoriously picky about their butter.
