If you think it's cute to weld a trailer hitch on your rocket, you probably don't have the proper attention to detail to be successful.

I am not going to judge this guy. He is no different than the person getting on a motorcycle with out a helmet. Driving it at a high rate of speed at night on a challenging highway after a couple belt's at the local hangout.
ORC there is so much wrong in this little paragraph. The guy who drinks and drives and luckily only kills himself is a dumbass. You should judge him. He took lives in his hand that weren’t his to risk. At least this guy is just your run of the mill dumbass. This scenario is so stupid that it’s literally not a matter of if he died, just when. He could have died on that first “successful” launch. He has way more successful attempts than I would have bet on. This was a death wish. Someone probably should have stepped in and stopped him. No one (TV) should have funded his suicide.
This guy make squirrel suit guys look like geniuses. Cue the cave diving squirrel suit guy in 3, 2, 1.......

old rugged crossSorry but a couple is not going to put you over the legal limit, nice try though

. It might provide some liquid courage to do so though. Most of us here have done similar with out a doubt.
I do not care really that this guy had his reasons for doing what he did including killing his self. I am not rejoicing that it happened. Sorry it did. But that is how it goes. Will always be on the side of people being able to decide for themselves what they want to do regardless of the outcome as long as it does not do harm to others.

maxdogI read that it was a “steam powered” rocket. That sounds crazy in itself! Never heard of using steam for manned flight. Sounds impractical. A pressure vessel strong enough to contain the required pressure seems like it would be too heavy. Guess not.
Just a temporary boost.

pedropcolaSane people, reasonable people, smart people don’t “have a couple” and then go racing around trying to draw the eye of LE. If you have had a couple, the vast majority of people become very attentive drivers. Not let’s see how fast this thing can go. You don’t care about my opinion which is understandable. What’s hard to grasp for most is your statement of not judging him, trying to equate his behavior to the equivalent of the rest of society. That’s nuts.
This is plain out suicidally dumb decision making. Born out by the fact that he made 2 attempts. The first wasn’t really successful and the second was fatal.

I would opine that there is lot more amiss with your pal than can be readily explained away by his 'flat earth beliefs'.
Yeah, he had a nice long relationship with "substances".

Infidel
I hate offended people. They come in two flavours - huffy and whiny - and it's hard to know which is worst. The huffy ones are self-important, narcissistic authoritarians in love with the sound of their own booming disapproval, while the whiny, sparrowlike ones are so annoying and sickly and ill-equipped for life on Earth you just want to smack them round the head until they stop crying and grow up.

old rugged crosspca, wow. You cannot even quote me correctly. And then embellish what I said that makes it hardly comparable. Then you speak for "most". And then there is this gem. "equate his behavior to the equivalent of the rest of society."
What does that even mean? oh never mind for crissakes.
"That's nuts."
And no I do not need to continually judge other people. That is someone else's job. Those that do would be better served by looking with in imho.

Foxworthy said.... If you weld a trailer hitch to the back of your home built rocket, made out of scrap metal from your neighbors junk pile, to be funny....... You might be an idiot!1

pedropcolaORC. I don’t think I misquoted you. You said you wouldn’t judge him because he isn’t much different from the guy who has “a few” and then races off on his rice rocket. News flash sir, that guy is an idiot too. And not very representative of society at large. Or not the portion of society worth emulating.
This guy had a suicidal death wish backed up by sloppy workmanship and worse engineering. The old trope of it’s not my place to judge is worn out. If you act idiotically, on a national stage, having sought out national attention through reality tv, then yes prepare to get mocked when your stupid attempt at attention leaves you a foot shorter than when you started.
Holding people accountable for stupidity is a good thing. You know this. Someone should have proactively did it to this buffoon.

ElToroI had a chance encounter with mad mike in a McDonald’s parking lot around thanksgiving 2017 near the town of Joshua Tree when one of his rocket attempts financed by the Flat Earthers was delayed. I believe it was discussed on the forum then. My take after speaking to him is that he was just a very low budget Evel Knievel and PT Barnum rolled into one. Maybe a movie about that. Get Billy Bob Thornton to play the part of Mike.
