Maybe the headline should be Those Not Watching the Oscars Upset About Hollywood. Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

Stop Talking, Start Doing |
I don’t understand why anyone watches that dumb shit. Hopefully it’s online-only viewing soon. _______________ Mind. Over. Matter.

Ah yes. Fewer people own TV subscriptions now so that explains it. Strange then that the college football National Championship game had amazing ratings. As did the Rose Bowl and the World Series. https://www.google.com/amp/s/w...ational-championship https://www.si.com/tech-media/...v-ratings-fox-sports https://www.google.com/amp/www...80102-story,amp.html I’m sure that some people would love to argue that major sporting events might be immune to huge ratings drops. Except that this year’s Super Bowl drew its fewest viewers since 2009. https://www.google.com/amp/dea...-nbc-1202278181/amp/ Anyone with half a brain knows that the reason these programs are losing viewers is because of politics. Unfortunately that’s half a brain more than most liberals will ever have. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

The Unknown Stuntman |
Nailed it. They can make all the excuses they want. It's not people cutting the cord. It's not people distracted by the internet. It is people pissed off about all the political nonsense.

His diet consists of black coffee, and sarcasm. |
I didn't watch them either, but I read that Gary Oldman - an Englishman - thanked the US. Even without the interjection of politics, the kinds of movies I like to watch don't typically win Oscars. Why, for example, didn't Alan Rickman get even a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in Die Hard?

Gracie Allen is my personal savior! |
Why would anyone watch what is essentially one long marketing video?

No double standards |
You have somewhat identified the problem. I am not sure if it is a lack of intelligence quotient, or a lack of moral quotient (maybe a bit of both). "Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women. When it dies there, no constitution, no law, no court can save it....While it lies there, it needs no constitution, no law, no court to save it" - Judge Learned Hand, May 1944

If you're gonna be a bear, be a Grizzly! |
I used to enjoy the Oscars, as well as the Grammy Awards and the other award shows. But then they starting delving into politics. If I want to watch political speeches from either side, I'll tune into CNN or FOX News. So I started turning the channel, and will continue to do so until they stop the political bullshit. Get up there, thank the voters for the award and thank all your people, then go sit down. Is that too much to ask from an awards show? Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

At least Variety doesn't get it- "But whatever the reason for the Oscars’ ratings decline, it was not lack of interest in Hollywood and the nominated films more broadly." ____________________________________________________ The butcher with the sharpest knife has the warmest heart.

Optimistic Cynic |
I think they had too many nominees from which to choose. I understand that a movie celebrating bestiality won best picture. That about sums up Hollywood.

As others in the thread have stated, who wants to be insulted and belittled by these Hollywood elitist pompous ass holes? These crowds are nothing but a bunch of liberal, progress democrats just looking to make political statements. Screw the whole damn lot of them!

Too old to run, too mean to quit! |
If not a lack of interest in sillywood, then what the hell is it? No talent people playing dress up, in poorly written stories which are supplemented by too much computer generated "special effects"! Last movie wife and I went to see was Dr. Zhivago which was, AIR, about 1974-75. And, the not so funny part is that we have not missed it. If I want to watch a movie I get on the interweb, look up a good western movie with real talented stars and a real plot! Elk There has never been an occasion where a people gave up their weapons in the interest of peace that didn't end in their massacre. (Louis L'Amour) "To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical. " -Thomas Jefferson "America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great." Alexis de Tocqueville FBHO!!! The Idaho Elk Hunter

Wife & I will pay up to see an Eastwood film. When I was a kid, staying up to watch the Awards was a real treat. Bob Hope seemed to always be the host, good times. Now, @ 71, I can't remember the last time I watched the Oscars. Might have been when Mr Hope passed the torch to Johnny Carson. Always enjoyed both of those men.

I am old enough to remember when the Oscars were not at all political. OBTW, I didn't watch them then either. Rod "Do not approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear, or a fool from any direction." John Deacon, Author I asked myself if I was crazy, and we all said no.

A day late, and a dollar short |
I have been to a movie theatre to watch a new movie ~4 times in the last 35 years, about 3 times to many. Hollywood can suck it! ____________________________ NRA Life Member, Annual Member GOA, MGO Annual Member

Indeed. I didn't watch either, but I LOVE movies. I used to go to Oscar viewing parties in the 90's where we would have contests to see who could predict the most winners. Things were fun then, and movies brought us together instead of trying (and succeeding) to divide us as they do now. Mainly its the people behind the movies, not always the topics or the movie themes. Remember when all of us who went and saw American Sniper instead of Selma were labeled racists for not flocking to a flawed and mediocre movie about a great man? No surprise that the most recent (2017) Emmy's was also record low (tied). Golden Globes this year were down 5% from 2017 and down 11% in the 18-49 demographic. Hey Hollywood asshats, are you seeing a pattern yet???? When you find yourself in a hole, first thing you do is to stop digging. Hollywood is to busy blaming other people claiming that they got put in the hole through no fault of their own.
