911BossQuestion for the tax guru’s - IRS refund more than expected, and an oddball amount?
First some background-
So I am a procrastinator when it comes to taxes. I rough them out early in the year and if it looks like I am going to owe, I finish up and send by the deadline. If it looks like I am getting a refund, I drag my feet double and triple checking things due to audit paranoia of my side hustle (real estate listing photography).
I want to make sure I have EVERY receipt for camera related stuff (used in business or not) to show in case of audit that I only deduct legitimate expenses related to my business. Due to my “less than efficient” record keeping it takes awhile to satisfy my OCD that I have everything documented and in order.
Now the question-
I finally submitted my 2023 return in late April of this year. I prepared it using “Freetax”, an online program that I’ve used for years (allows for schedule C sole proprietorship) and the refund due was $1935.
This morning I received notice of my refund being deposited, but the amount is $1969.44???
I guess there could have been an error somewhere (though never has been an issue) but even if that was the case, wouldn’t the refund be a whole dollar amount? Never had anything from the IRS not be rounded to the dollar.
Did they pay me interest on my refund? While this one may be a personal record for late filing, it certainly isn’t my first late file. Never received more than my calculated refund before.
Anyone know what the deal is?

Probably yes. You must report the interest paid on your 2025 tax return. A 1099INT will be sent to you in Jan 2026.

911BossThanks, didn’t realize they paid interest.
