We have all kinds of pets including cats. I’m not freaked out by them at all. My wife will pretty much rescue anything with fur.

I've had cats for the biggest part of my life. I'm down to one now, and old enough that I likely won't have another (not fair to die on them.) My current sleeps on my pillow next to me. I'm diabetic, and she wakes me up (cold paws) when my blood glucose drops and I need food. On average, my cats live for 17 years. I only had one that just did not bond with us, but I suspect she was horrifically abused before we got her. My current cat was in a bad situation, housed in a lockdown dementia unit where a relative lived. She was nearly feral, but would sit on my lap when we visited. When the relative died, the staff begged us to take her, the old folks would kick her and they staff didn't want to care for her. After two days she was sleeping with me.

I grew up with both cats and dogs. I like both but have become allergic to cats so just dogs for us.
Creeped out though? Not unless the cat accompanies a warty old witch. Those creep me out.

BlackAgnes, I know what you mean. I have had many cats when I was younger. My dad has four of them.
The creepy part I get. It’s like a roach, or a daddy long legs spider. They won’t harm you, but damn I don’t want to touch it.
One of my dad’s cats falls into that category. Probably due to hair more than anything, but none the less, the cat gives me the same feeling.

My neighbor at the lake has two cats and they are fantastic mousers. He has a small hobby farm and has chickens and a couple outbuildings. For every mouse I see them carry around they get at least one or more song birds as well. Not a fan of that as birds particularly the smaller species seem to be disappearing.
Feral cats are outlaws and are open season in my book. At my house in town we have way too many. The older lady down the block feeds them so they will never leave the neighborhood. I have talked to her about this but she won't stop doing it. As a result my Ruger 22 air rifle has 3 feral notches on it in the past few weeks. Told the lady when they are on my property they get shot. I felt bad as I could see it pained her but it's reality.
They have gotten under my three season house and drop litters of kittens at least once a year. No way I'm running the risk of one of my grand kids coming across a feral cat thinking it's a house cat and trying to play with it. After taking down three I hope the rest get the message and give my place a wide berth.

I accidentally got a cat in 2012. We also came to terms. He didn't try to eat me in my sleep, I didn't turn him into a pot of chili. Win-win for both of us. Then I got married, and ended up with two more.

Apparently you have failed to take note of the boss' reaction to such comments in the past. If you're lucky he'll not notice this.
There's a more humane way to deal with the situation. Odds are there are one or more cat rescues in your area that offer free spaying/neutering for feral cats. You catch 'em, the org gets them checked out for rabies, etc., gets them spayed/neutered, and releases them.
If nothing else: How do you know the difference between a feral cat and a neighbor's pet they allow to run free?

That's how I ended-up a cat person.
We'd always had both cats and dogs in the home when I was growing up. Sometimes one, sometimes the other, sometimes both, but, as I grew older--got out on my own, I became kind of neutral on them both. Neither liked nor disliked either.
I got married and two cats came along as part of the bargain. The male cat decided I was his new best friend. (Somewhat to the annoyance of my new bride ) I've been a cat person ever since.

I can understand the sentiment but I grew beyond that. Turns out you can catch them and get them fixed for cheap.
I got one in fall of 2019 when she was having kittens in my window well, twice that summer. I could not trap her as she was trap smart. When I finally caught her using a string on a sliding door, my friends helped me catch her kittens.
After finding the second litter of kitten homes and getting Momma fixed, it was November up here and she decided the indoor life was not so bad by then.
She's actually a really sweet cat that sleeps in my bed and on my lap all the time. I'm not sure of her past as she obviously never walked on a pillow top bed before. She never knew what a litter box was at first (her kittens took right to it). She never had cat toys before. She never had the touch of a human. Turns out she one of the sweetest kitties I've known. i used to take care of several feral cats for my daughter over the years.
if you think most feral cats are playful, let you get close, you're fucking dreaming!!
