My wife has a Tacklife, but I don't think it is a Pro model. She has used it some on her 2003 Toyota Sequoia (before finally giving up and replacing the battery), and also on her ATV. It cranks the Sequoia's V8 just fine.

I own an Audew 2000, but have not had the chance to use it yet on my Tacoma, and I hope to keep it that way.

I’m a bit ‘old school’. I have good quality cables, try to keep my battery up, yes, a draw could be left on.

I realize many wouldn’t even want to allow a jump, ‘may hurt their vehicle’. I met such a guy in Jackson, MS years ago. The next was helpful.

It’s more often I’m jumping someone else than needing one myself.

I do understand the self sufficiency of having the booster system.

Two tips: If you get more bells and whistles on a jump pack, it's more things that will eventually break down. If the jump pack is left in a tool bag or truck, it must be periodically hooked up to recharge - it can't be left there for a year ignored. Anytime you use it would be the best time to put in on a charger. Car batteries have the same problem, they don't sit well for months at a time and a really dead one takes 72 hours recharging at ten amps.

I've had this one for a couple of years. Used it once to start a friends car. Worked perfectly. Reminds me, I'm overdue to top it off. I try to do that at least ever 6 weeks or so.

I own, and have used, the Audew 2000A. It's worked like a charm on a couple of autos, and also on a tractor with an old battery. I chose it because of the good reviews, and also the price...very reasonable, especially when you catch them on sale (Black Friday for example).

We have them as well in all our extended families vehicles (7 and counting). What ever one you choose make sure it will start the largest motor you have. For example, the one I keep in my F-350 with the 6.7 diesel is larger than the one in my son’s Mazda 3.

We have used them multiple times with great success.

I can see that happening as these things put out a lot of juice and I think the same thing could happen with the old fashioned battery to battery jump. However, if this was wide spread, I'd think there would be an abundance of complaints all over the internet and law suits flying. I've not researched this other than "experts" say it's possible.

Looking at online reviews, it seems that the lithium batteries in these things are problematic. Chinese lithium batteries don't seem like something I would want in my house or car. Remember all thise "hoverboard" fires from few years ago?

I recently purchased a couple of the Deltran Battery Tender brand from walmart. 1000A says it will do up to V8 engines. At the time it was in store for $78, but now shows $88. I have not used them. My son has the Type S from Costco that Ronin linked and I saw him help a neighbor start a dead battery over Christmas and it started right up. I was impressed and that is what lead me to look into them to put in a couple vehicles.

Have a Noco GB40 that works well but I'd like to have a cordless tire inflator for minor pressure adjustments so I bought an Ultrai Jstar 6 1800 A combo tire inflator/jump starter.

Will check it out and report anything noteworthy after it arrives.

There are two types of lithium batteries in use in these jump pack (and other) devices. Li-Ion, and Li-Polymer, or Li-Po. Li-Ion is by far the most popular, it can be recharged more times and well designed ones last longer than Li-Po. Li-Po on the other hand uses a gel (vs liquid) electrolyte and is less prone to the "heat runaway" effect. They cost more to make, and cannot be charged as many times over their life, so you don't find as many devices with Li-Po.

My personal choice for a jump pack is an Audew with a Li-Po battery. I may need to replace it a few years down the road, but they're not that expensive. 5 years from now there will probably be some new whiz-bang battery type that outstrips anything available now.

After reviewing the recommendations here, doing my own research including reviewing the Project Farm evaluations, I purchased the Gooloo 4000 (Li-Po).

Arrived from Amazon with an 80% charge which I charged up to 100%. It has its own hard shell case which is compartmentalized for the cables etc.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

*Not* a Schumacher SL1314. It couldn't get the job done. I ended up jumping the car from a riding lawn mower.
