I gotta wonder if that is still an issue.

ARmanUnless they are thugs and delinquents kids aren't on the streets.
The kids don't go outside. Most ever. I drive a school bus, it's amazing the first day of school, that kids get on the bus so pale they're almost see through.
Thugs and delinquents, that's different. But they're out at night, breaking into cars and such, still get on the bus the first day of school see through....

Black92LXDepends on what you consider off the streets?
As in off the streets not engaging in criminal behavior, yes.
As in kids out in the streets playing, no.
My kids and the neighbor kiddos are rarely in the house. They also don’t have tablets, phones, or computers.
They get home from school rip off their shirts and start playing outside.
Then it’s time to eat and they go to practice. They get home and try to play some more but we are mean, make them come inside and bathe, then read to them before bed.

I live in a cul-d-sac in suburbia and the neighborhood kids are playing in the cul-d-sac and street from after school to dinner and usually again after dinner.

92fstechMy kids are outside all the time, shooting hoops, riding bikes, and playing in the front yard. They have friends over a lot to do the same stuff, and I see quite a few neighborhood kids out all the time, too. There are definitely some kids who don't get out much, but it's far from all of them.

There was a big push by cities in eastern Iowa to encourage young ones to join Girl scouts and assorted church groups cub, boy scouts.
In attempt to discourage getting in to trouble.
Numerous Recreation centers and YMCA's went up around that time.
