The rub is that he will never give up his seat, no matter what. He's been an asshole for his entire public life (and according to others, prior), he will do whatever he can to remain in the Senate, just to spite Trump and the citizens who support him. McCain not only has contempt for Trump, but for his constituents who elected him, and for the American people in general.

There are more questions than answers about exactly what he did for his fellow prisoners in Vietnam. If some of the answers I've heard are true, he should have been at the end of a rope a long time ago.
