That's awesome. Dave Grohl is, by practically all accounts, a really good guy and just a regular joe. Nothing rock star about him whatsoever. A few years ago, he broke his leg and rather than cancel the tour and disappoint the fans, he played live, sitting in a chair with a cast on.

Reminds me of this piece of rock 'n roll legend, when Keith Moon passed out in the middle of a song on stage and The Who had some random dude fill in for him and do a damn fine job of it. IIRC, they basically threatened him with his job after the show.

FF are one band where musicians in the crowd have a decent shot of a Walter Mitty-like fantasy coming true. Of course, the original incident was Keith Moon passing out and Pete asking if anyone could play the drums. A guy in the front finished out the show for them. Check out the FF video of the guy in the Gene Simmons makeup sitting in for a song. I've done this stuff in bars plenty, but never been asked at a big show (yet).
