I bought a Sharpie pen thinking I'd try to re-do the temperature graduations on my stainless stove, but I know it's gonna look like shit. Has anyone heard of stick on replacement numbers?

Have any of you run into this?

My stove is from the 1990s and the paint came off the knobs. I could of looked for new knobs, but I had a collection of Testers model paint. I used that and a fine brush and it looks good. Also, on a bezel of a Tag Heuer watch, the paint in indented numbers was coming off. Again, Testers model paint and it looks flawless.

But.. with the internet these days, you could probably find replacements.

Thanks. Despite having a pretty steady hand, I doubt I can copy what was there. Or I should say is somewhat gone from the finish.

These black numbers are around the knobs.

You could just make three simple marks/dots/lines at off, midway, and highest. Even doable with just off and highest.

These three marks would then let you easily judge low (just above off), medium-low (halfway between off and midway), medium (midway mark or just halfway between off and highest), medium-high (halfway between midway and highest) and high (highest).

That's what stovetop cooking calls for anyway... The actual numbers are unnecessary. No recipe is formatted like "Sautee in skillet on 8 and then turn down to 3".

^^^ That's true. There are some numbers still showing...some partial, some gone. Looks bad. And to complicate things, two of the burners, the front two, have dual heat (center and outer) That makes the dial numbers more complicated.

I found Amazon carries some complete rings that can be applied over the old ones, but because of my dual heat areas, they wouldn't work.

So try the Testers paint and if it doesn't look good, crack the wallet for the expensive decals.

I bought some of the decals for our stovetop when I was selling my house this summer and they were crazy expensive for decals. I never had the nerve to remove what was left of the original ones, so I just left them in the drawer for the new owner.

Maybe try making your own stickers using self-adhesive vinyl printer transparencies?

$60 for stickers is crazy talk. I toasted a couple of my knobs by not completely closing the oven door and just bought replacement knobs.

You should be able to find direct replacements.

I wish. It's black printing around the knobs.

That’s actually a good idea, that never even crossed my mind and for almost half the cost.

But you’re an artist! You could hand paint those numbers no sweat. Just apply some personal artistic license like Salvador Dali. Be sure to post resultsBig Grin

My stove is a Thermador from the 1970's and the knobs look fine. Cool
I've thought about one of those modern stoves that have a smooth top and might be easier to clean... but I still like this one.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Those pics make it more clear the task. The level of skill required for painting is more than I thought. Good luck. Also, get a soft sponge, anything even mildly abrasive will put you right back where you started.
