Its been years since I've been to Vegas and I see that they have a monorail now. I've been wanting to go to the ShotShow but didn't want to pay the $200 hotel costs per night. So could I stay out of town and park at some parking near a rail station and ride into the convention center? Thanks in advance.

The monorail is only around the convention center on the east side of the strip, also there's no "out of town" were very much an island in a vast expansion of nothing.

Monorail runs from Mandalay Bay to New York, New York. I was in the middle, the Luxor, about 2 months ago. When it was 108F, it helped.

That's the south end of the strip on the west side. There is another above-ground monorail that runs north - on the east side of the strip - from behind MGM Grand up to the Westgate and SLS Las Vegas. There is not really a stop at the Sands, you have to walk from over at the Linq. You can find some reasonably priced rooms if you book in advance. I guess you could stay farther out and rent a car or do the Uber thing. So you stay out of town for $100 / night, the add in a little gas, parking, and mono fees... Not to mention your time... Not really seeing the savings, but oh well.

Actually, last year, they started asking for employment records for all people requesting passes to make sure the people actually worked in the industry. No more friends of gun shop owners getting passes. I don't believe they are to the point yet of asking for id at the door to make sure your pass and id match. Be aware that most of the strip hotels are now charging for parking even if you are a guest.
