Just mobilize it |
Got a new TV for the Mrs. and the cord is too short to reach the outlet by abiut a foot. Can’t really move the tv in any better spot so can I just use an extension cord? Back of tv says 1.7A so does that dictate what kind of cord to get in terms of quality?

Any wire-size extension cord will work, 1.7A isn't going to tax 16ga at all(usually the smallest wire size you will find). What is more important is the quality of the plug/receptacle & construction of the cord - not all are created equal. For a 3 or 6 foot extension cord, the cost difference between the cheapest & something with some quality is trivial, so I'd go for something above bargain-bin. This is something where you can probably feel the difference between a cheap one & a good one - better cords will be more flexible & have nicer molded connectors on the ends.

Personally I would get a power strip with a built in surge protector... but not necessarily a cheap one. Might not do much but that's what I do. Plug related stuff, cable box etc, into the strip. I also have a whole house surge suppressor as well. Collecting dust.

Found an unused cord in the garage. Rated for up to 16A so I think I’m solid. Thanks!

This. Unless you have a whole-house surge protector, your expensive electronics (like your new TV) should be plugged into a surge protector anyway. This would also solve your cord length issue.

Thank you Very little |

Ignored facts still exist |
If you go this route, just make sure it's UL (or other NRTL like TUV, ETL etc) marked. Amazon has started selling lots of stuff that lacks UL (or similar) listing. This is why I only buy From Alibaba. (that last sentence was a joke) .

Had the same challenge with a bargain soundbar recently purchased on Amazon. They must assume you’ll be plugging it into a surge strip on an extension.. ______________________________________________ Life is short. It’s shorter with the wrong gun…

If your tv has a power cord that plugs in to the TV, you should be able to find a longer replacement cord. I used these for new monitors I bought when the power cables wouldn't reach the outlet. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d...pop_mob_b_asin_title "We've done four already, but now we're steady..."

Buy the way... THIS is what I use on my system, bought after quite a bit of research... but that was 5 years ago. Collecting dust.
