April 25th dawned here in Melbourne, for Anzac Day, to remember the fallen ANZACs at Gallipoli Peninsula, April 25, 1915.

Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC)

It's not a day of celebration, more a national memory.
Look after family, your mates, your neighbors.
Cherish your home.

And remembering great-grandfather, Colonel J Evans, former 6th Australian Infantry Regiment.

But that's another time and story.

Thanks for the reminder. Will take time to remember and reflect tomorrow. Think I’ll have a beer in their honor. They would have liked that.

Gallipoli campaign...that was an all-time meat grinder.

I'll raise a drink to those boys.

We can always rely on a precious few allies. A sincere thank you Australia & New Zealand. I heard this Eric Bogle song on this very site several years ago and saved it for memories.

I like the Pogues rendition a bit better. Vocals aren't as polished, but captures the bitterness over losing his legs and the sadness of being forgotten.

Someone on another spot said the dawn parades were cancelled for the first time. So at dawn everyone went out and stood silently at the end of their driveways.

Shit gets real in battle, God bless anyone that's had to battle an opponent to the death of either one of them.

Yeah there is significant propaganda in Turkey surrounding the Gallipoli battle. It is where Ataturk's legend was born. He was shot and saved by a pocket watch. So the Turks definitely play it up.

That being said, the memorial there is very impressive and I think it really does a good job of honoring the soldiers from both sides who lost their lives.
