Rush was my first ROCK concert 6th row 40 years ago.

Saw them about 100x and met Neil briefly once. This one is a kick to the balls. The world is poorer today.

Big fan as well. RIP. I wonder how many people he exposed to Ayn Rand and libertarian thought. Big loss in the rock world.

It was great to see a guy at the top of his profession still striving to improve his game late in his career. Loved watching him play.

Frown Moving Pictures and Power Windows were about all I listened to when I was in H.S. I think I know them note for note. Very sad to hear this.

He had some heartache in his life for sure when he lost his wife and daughter within a 10 month span. He took off on his motorcycle and rode like 50,000 and wrote a book about it called Ghost Rider.

Dan Rather actually did a phenomenal interview of Geddy Lee not too long ago that you can probably find online. It's pretty funny listening to the interview and listening to Geddy talk about their music teacher saying there's no way you can only have 3 people in the band. Definitely proved that teacher wrong.

I have a good friend who's in a Rush cover band so if any of you from the St.Louis area and are Rush fans you should check out Thunderhead at the Pagent some time it's always a great time.

RIP

We have seen Thunderhead here in St. Louis and they are very good.

He is and was a beast on the drums. RIP.

Actually, they'd all be complimenting Chick Webb on how he influenced them.

read an article yesterday stating he was influenced early by Keith Moon,

hopefully they are having a conversation

I can believe that. Keith was known for playing the tune, not just the beat.

I never knew that Peart wrote the lyrics to many if not most of Rush's songs.

What a loss. Condolences to his wife, 10-year-old daughter, and band mates.

Rush has been a constant in my life since high school. I probably never go more than 4 days without listening their music. Like many fellow introverts born in the 60s, Peart's insightful lyrics and the complex music he, Geddy and Alex produced came along at the perfect time for me - my teens - and helped me fill hours I just as soon not spend at parties and high school football games.

Thankfully, Peart's work lives on.

It's always a good time. My buddy is the lead singer. The drummer has to fill immense shoes but is unbelievably good.

Very prophetic lyrics by Peart here. He changed his drumming style late in his career, under instruction from Fred Gruber, to a style he likened to dancing, where what happens "in the air" is critical. Eventually his limbs broke down from all the wear and tear, and he could no longer dance. Right after, cancer came for the writer's mind, and took it from him. The bell tolled for Neil twice, and all too early. I'll never listen to this song again without thinking of his tragic demise.

Losing It

The dancer slows her frantic pace
In pain and desperation,
Her aching limbs and downcast face
Aglow with perspiration

Stiff as wire, her lungs on fire,
With just the briefest pause —
The flooding through her memory,
The echoes of old applause.

She limps across the floor
And closes her bedroom door…

The writer stares with glassy eyes —
Defies the empty page,
His beard is white, his face is lined
And streaked with tears of rage.

Thirty years ago, how the words would flow
With passion and precision,
But now his mind is dark and dulled
By sickness and indecision

And he stares out the kitchen door
Where the sun will rise no more…

Some are born to move the world —
To live their fantasies
But most of us just dream about
The things we’d like to be

Sadder still to watch it die
Than never to have known it
For you — the blind who once could see —
The bell tolls for thee…

I assume they all live in the Greater St. Louis area?
