Government office is not supposed to be a career.
In some careers, 20 years is a career and entitles one to a pension. 16 seems uncomfortably close to 20. 12 might be better.
At the same time, some folks are (or at least were) looking at Ron Desantis and saying “We like what we see, but he’s not ready for the big seat yet. He needs more experience as governor before running for President.” If we limit terms, we limit the opportunity to gather experience and to build a track record.
I don’t know what the answer is, but I wonder if the bigger problem isn’t the lack of an informed and engaged citizenry. And no, I don’t know how to fix that problem either, sigh…

ZSMICHAELTerm limits make little sense, just like arbitrary age limits. We do testing with other professions why not Senators. We also have members of Congress that lack maturity. For those individuals age limits do not help. Maybe we should raise the minimum age. We manage to do cognitive testing in safety sensitive positions.

So let me get this straight, we should trust a government that has totally corrupted the Justice Department, FBI, IRS, ATF, FDA, etc, etc... ad nauseam.
Yet somehow you think that a cognitive testing system wouldn't be manipulated or corrupted.
Count me as another one who thinks that is terribly naive.

ZSMICHAELWe get to pick the evaluator and we film the testing. Simple enough for you? Drug testing for example can be done without cheating. I doubt the government has neuropsychologists who are willing to risk their professional license. I guess pilots fake their exams too? I am more concerned about that. Think about what you are saying.

rburgSo I sit here, and see all those wanting him to retire are from the other party and have much to gain by retiring him. The reality is that we live in his "district" and are willing to keep him to see if he recovers. At least I am. Those who want him gone have the right to vote against him, as the already do. My feeling is that they can just to to hell. We decide who represents us. I'm for keeping him.
I notice none of them wanted Diane Fineswine to quit. Its political, nothing else. Ignore those calls as the political crap they are.

Hmm, what is the greater risk to a professional license issued BY the government?
1. Being unbiased and honest for the greater good in speaking a truth detrimental to a powerful politician
Or
B. Toeing the prescribed false narrative and supporting the government mandated and approved “science” that flies in the face of anyone capable of rational thought?
I know you hate COVID comparisons but how many docs faced censure, loss of funding, and license threats for speaking contrary to the approved narrative, were told they could not prescribe certain treatments, pressured into listing the wuflu as the “cause” of death in patients who also had stage 4 cancer and fatal trauma comorbidities?
What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

Yeah I was pretty hesitant to say 16 already...
12 sounds like a good compromise.

Federal office vs State office.
Governor of Florida is not federal.
So simply put the term limit on Federal offices.
Maybe as well have a separate term limit on state offices.

downtownvI recall several years ago Para posted something to the effect, that the Biden Family should be ashamed and were committing elder abuse. I agreed wholeheartedly with the post
Well, the same could be said with McConnell and Feinstein's situations. The Senate is the nation's most expensive nursing home.

a1abdjWhen you get term limits you transfer the real power from those that are elected to the unelected persons in the background.
Same dance, different song, and maybe that song isn't as catchy as the original.

That's already happened, and the swamp will never change it. Term limits could transfer power to those who think differently.

And yet, he's senate minority leader, so it's not
just about representing Kentucky. If you guys don't have anyone in that whole state who's better suited to the job, then I guess that shambling mess will have to do until he drops dead from a stroke on national TV. It's good for Kentucky, and it's good for the country.

I'm not convinced it doesn't already work that way, but term limits would at least mean the unelected background persons would have to try to corrupt someone new more often than every few decades. Throw those assholes a curve ball.

Implementation. At this point in the evolution of our culture I think the only effective solution would be an omnipotent moral ruler uncorrupted by Marxism/Leftism/Wokism (hate that term), who understands and is tethered to true capitalism and the original principles of the US constitution. This ruler would have unquestioned power to make corrections without resistance, obstruction nor delay. So let it be written. So let it be done.
Absent that, we'll continue in conflict until the end of the road.

SilentPerhaps we could start by going back to having the state legislative bodies select their state’s US senators by removing the 17th amendment.
