Wife's 2013 Tahoe. Liftgate won't open from the outside, but while driving will click open to the "safety spot."
Pulled the battery cable and had her pull while I reconnected, and it opened.
I am thinking bad tailgate switch??
Any suggestions?

Try pushing on the tail gate while trying to open
Is this a power lift gate?

Valid question that I did not mention.
No, just a regular tailgate that has the pressure sensitive switch to open. Squeeze on the handle and click, kind of thing
Push, squeeze doesn't work

I suspect the latches are getting sticky/rusted, try cleaning and oiling

Cant be sticky if it opens to the safety spot while driving down the road. No click on the squeeze. Just started today.
Off to the dealership for them to diagnose perhaps.

Had that on my 2011 Tahoe squad car. Fix = new switch

Pyker,
How difficult is that for someone who has little knowledge and even fewer tools?

Took the shop a couple of hours as I remember. Had to remove the interior trim from the door and remove/install the new switch.I don't know much about the actual problems or tricks to doing it I'm afraid, but it didn't look that involved.

I don't know but I'm wondering if this is the issue you might be having, and assuming the Suburban-Tahoe is the same mechanism? The repair looks reasonably easy to do for Joe Average Guy
