Don't go to emergency. Find the eye hospital and call immediately. Unless emergency hospital is set up for eye surgery. Retina specialist. At least your Doc is seeing you. Mine told me to come in Monday

On-call ophtho already said she is going to meet OP at the ER. Why tell him not to go to ER?

Yeah, sure, cataracts can pop up suddenly like that, but most commonly, it is gradual onset. Ask yourself, what is the likelihood of cataract be the diagnosis here? What are the most common reasons for a sudden painless (I will assume this, as OP did not mention pain) loss of vision in one eye? It sure ain't cataract, but the more urgent/emergent ones, like retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhage, central retinal artery occlusion or central retinal vein occlusion.

It sounds like a retinal detachment. Since the lens of the eye inverts images (your brain corrects the orientation for vision), it sounds like the detachment is on the "nasal" side, at the top: lower left translates to top right. The retina has detached and is hanging down like a curtain. Fear not. This can be corrected.

Mind if I ask you- are you diabetic or hypertensive?

I thought of a vein occlusion, although given the partial field loss, I'd vote for a branch occlusion. The vitreous hemorrhage is a good guess as well, though in my experience photographing such hemorrhages, they become diffuse in the vitreous body rather than remain localized.

Whatever it is, it sounds scary. I hope it's nothing major and they get you fixed up right away.

Hope you get it all resolved with ease.
Being a -10.0 (in contacts, closer to -12 in glasses) in both eyes, I've always got stuff like this in my mind come annual exam time.

My dad had a few minor tears & has had a few laser touch ups.

I’ve had two friends who’ve had retinal detachments. Both described symptoms much like yours.

I had a detached retina back in 1974 and they used a laser to reattach the retina. The sight is better in that eye compared to the left one.

Prayers. And do exactly what they tell you to do for follow up. Mrs. Mike used to work for an eye doctor. She and I both said detached retina. Hoping for the best.

That was my first thought. I've had it happen twice and it sounds similar to what's going on with the OP.
