NEW YORK (AP) — Randy Meisner, a founding member of the Eagles who added high harmonies to such favorites as “Take It Easy” and “The Best of My Love” and stepped out front for the waltz-time ballad “Take It to the Limit,” has died, the band said Thursday.

Meisner died Wednesday night in Los Angeles of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the Eagles said in a statement. He was 77.

One of the original members of Poco as well.

I didn't realize that he was that old...I guess we're all getting on in years.

Perhaps I'll put on some tunes this evening.

RIP Randy!
Timothy B. Schmidt is good on the high notes, but Randy was better.

Man, this unexpectedly hit me in the feels. Take it to the Limit is my alltime favorite Eagles song. They didn't do right by the man as I recall. He was a great singer and bassist. This song, and the Eagles in general take me back. Damn. Nostalgic & melancholy evening.

From watching the Eagles documentary, Henley and Frey were the band leaders and had more control and got bigger cuts. If other members who felt like they should have had equal control and cuts didn't like it is understandable. Frey seemed like a bit of a jerk and Meisner a soft spoken nicer guy. Too bad they had friction.

I read awhile ago Randy’s family and extended family were taking his royalty money from him anyway they could. He had a drinking problem and they were trying to get him committed so they could get control of everything he had. He was still getting substantial royalties at the time from all the play the old Eagles songs were and still do get.

Timothy B Schmidt was a Poco band member don’t don’t think Meisner was.

Meisner was one of the original members, he played and sang on their first album, but quit because the two leaders of the band Jim Messina and Richie Furay banned Meisner and the other bandmates from the final mix sessions. Schmidt replaced him in Poco.

Ironically, Meisner quit the Eagles because of the two leaders Don Henley and Glenn Frey, also replaced by Schmidt. The bad luck, being an original member of two bands with asshole members.
