Surprise! This article is by Jeffrey Toobin, in The New Yorker. It is a very positive article on the role of Leonard Leo, Executive VP of the Federalist Society, in getting conservative judges and justices into the Federal courts.
It highlights Trump's request to Leo to come up with the list of potential SCOTUS nominees--Trump's idea, according to the article.

Well worth reading for those who have wondered how Gorsuch percolated to the top of the nominating list.

interesting article

I wonder if the democrats know just how much influence he has and will do what they can to destroy him before the next appointment comes up

I see the article in two lights - one was very revealing about his influence - the other as a subtle hit job

It seems overly generous in describing Leo as the Mayor in the hearing room. With all the elected egomaniacs in the room, it is hard to imagine anyone a mere civilian having much sway.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Well, I'm a member of a credit union. Does that count?

They know. Fed Soc took a central role in W's nominations and was active enough before that the left created their own version. It isn't a one man show. Leo goes away but the movement remains. It's funded, staffed, and deeply supported. You're right in the article being a slap upside the head for dems not in the know. Expect foot stomping followed by their attention shifting to the next low hanging shiny object that distracts them from winning.

I was a non-lawyer member. Time to re-join.
