Maybe this is a dumb question, but are these Fenix flashlights made by the same company that makes Fenix ammunition? I haven't purchased from either, but the Fenix ammo guys put out some wild and funny social media.

Fenix flashlights are designed and manufactured by Fenixlight Limited, a high-tech company based in Shenzhen, China, that owns its own production facility and handles R&D, manufacturing, and sales in-house. While the core company and production are in China, brands like Fenix Lighting USA and Fenix-Store.com are authorized US distributors with local customer service.

I'm also a Fenix fan and recently added a PD26R to the stable. 1700 lumens is bright enough for my needs. Got it custom engraved.

USB-C charging is so nice since I have a bunch of them laying around and one in my car.

As far as a price point I would say less expensive models.
From much past experience, anything that goes to his house is assaulted by my 4 small grand-kids.

I now think disposable everything that ends up there.
Middle ground is the quality level I'm looking for.

Para nailed it. I own a lot of flashlights from Surefire, Olight, Fenix and Nitecore. But the one I use the most is a Fenix PD 36R Pro. Lots of power, built bombproof and easy to use. I got an additional battery as well. I take my wife to work early mornings and I always have it in my left hand while getting to the car. I’ve used it recently to illuminate a few coyotes.

I have a PD40R has a strobe function and on “turbo” it’s dang bright. I have 2.5 acreas and no streetlights when my dogs are out I use that bright light to look for them. Also carry when I go for evening walks. It can blind somebody temporarily with a flash to face and it has a crown bezel that would function as a strike face

A few years ago I dropped my Fenix PD35 from overhead onto a concrete floor and the light stopped working. It was well out of warranty so I called Fenix to see if I could buy just the internals. I got an actual person and after explaining the situation, they just asked for my shipping address and sent replacement parts that day, no cost. If this flashlight ever stops meeting my needs, I'll definetly get another Fenix one.

$39.99 was the price after a $10 discount. It’s not a Streamlight but well worth the price and much brighter than my 500 lumen light. Like I said, it might not truly be 7000 lumens but for the price, it can’t be beat. And if you don’t like it, Costco will take it back.

It is a heck of a deal. I literally just walked in the door back from Costco with one. It has the feel of a MagLight. I bought the virtually identical one last year when it was on sale at Costco and it has been under the seat of the truck for the last year. This years model says 7000 lum last years model is 5000 lum. The beam is adjustable from flood to spot though last yrs model has a wider range of focus. The price includes the rechargeable 4000mAh lithium battery as well as 9 Duracell AA batteries. The battery is charged via usb c while in the flashlight. I don't know if it really is 7000 lumens but I compared the 5000 lumen one to the 7000 lumen one side by side and there is a significant difference in brightness. The 5000 lum model is available on Amazon for $52. The one at Costco on sale for $40 is heck of a deal IMHO.

Thanks for the tip, just purchased two of them, one for my son. Our old Surefire house flashlight bit the dust in Oct., this is a great deal. No tax on my purchase either.

For the Costco flashlight, I had the earlier one that used AA batteries. And it was great. Until the Duracell Alkaleaks, leaked.

Costco gave me $20 for it, and I walked back and got the current 7000l light for $10 more and it includes rechargeables.

The included alkaleaks will be used in something that uses up the power quickly so they hopefully won’t have time to leak.

I have used a Fenix FD 41 for years and have liked it.
This flashlight will be sitting by the door and used to illuminate a large rural area, it won't be carried around for all kinds of tasks. It is for projecting a large beam over a large area.
I like the idea of the Costco flashlight but would like something with a better brand name. My Son is a low level flashlight snob, and this is a Christmas gift.

Sounds like that Costco unit is perfect for his purpose. I think he'll learn to really like it for real. It's hard to dismiss something that works well because you didn't pay an arm and a leg for it. It's actually kind of endearing.

Even a 'flashlight snob' can get excited about a ridiculously bright rechargeable flashlight that he didn't pay for.

I found the flashlight to be more comfortable to handle after removing the belt clip and attaching the supplied lanyard.

Another vote for Fenix. I have had a UC35 for many years and it's still working perfectly. Note it's only 1000 Lumens but when it was introduced in 2014 1000 lumens was a pretty big deal.

I use my issue Streamlight 2020. It works.
