I have a new home! I work projects, and travel from place to place. I've lived in an RV in some form or another since about 2007. My first was a fifth wheel, which I was in from about '07 to '14. My second a used ('09) Class A diesel pusher, from about '15 to now. Well, I decided to get a new one for two reasons. First, I was getting really tired of the floor plan. It wasn't as livable as I thought it might be. Second, I wasn't driving it - it sat stationary for well over a year, and I think I put less than 4,000 miles on it in the three years I've had it. I had an engine, transmission, and all the mechanical "stuff" that was getting older and older and would at some point require maintenance. So I decided to go back to a fifth wheel. Storage is a big issue with me - I'm a cyclist, and have two good bikes I want to keep out of the weather (and secure). I thought about a toy hauler, but those weren't livable long-term, at least for me. I ended up coming across a fifth wheel plan that has a sliding drawer in the back, plenty of storage for both bikes. Since I "downgraded" from a diesel pusher Class A to a fifth wheel, it was almost an even trade. It actually would have been, except I had a washer/dryer and generator installed. I had it delivered on Thursday, and am getting settled in. So far I love it! Much more comfortable and livable. Now I need something to pull it with! (Although not yet, I'll have at least a year or so before I need to move it.) Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet. - Dave Barry "Never go through life saying 'I should have'..." - quote from the 9/11 Boatlift Story (thanks, sdy for posting it)

Montana is a great brand. I have a good friend who retired a few years ago (he is a pastor) and bought one. He has 2 kids in San Diego and 1 in MN, so he travels between them plus doing some church work here and there. He was passing thru a year ago and stopped in. Floor plan was great and a quality built unit.

Very nice. Do you own property or lease a spot? It will take a heavy duty rig to haul that when you move it. Sure you already know that. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Really nice! I would be living in a 5th wheel, but my boss won't let me even after I pointed out so many of the positives to her. If I was alone, I'm sure I'd be one in a second, parked in some beautiful location at the right time of year. Good luck with it! Retired Texas Lawman

That’s cool! Three sets of relatives of mine were RVers who, though based out of “site-built” homes, traveled extensively for months at a time. One of them used a fifth-wheel and loved it. Whats there not to like? We have a local dealer that carries that brand and I have walked through them and yes, they are very nice. Not sure what you will need to tow that but I'm thinking somewhere around around a ton and half rig. Good job! .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

Congratulations on your purchase, now does that have the rear step up living room or the rear bedroom? The Solitude has the same idea. We were looking at a fifth wheel, but decided to stay with the Class A. I had just bought a new Jeep and installed the tow bracket and the brakie system in it. Then looking for a tow vehicle a 1 ton duelly was just not going to work for us. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Congratulations. That look very nice. For tow vehicle, I would suggest a RAM 3500 or F350 (dually), if your budget allow. It gives you the most payload. If not, at least a RAM 2500 or F250, both diesel. Make sure you review both specifications and that they fit your need (with the trailer loaded up). If I may make a suggestion, order couple of 50ft (6 inch wide) rolls of Eternabond tape and start sealing those roof seams. If you haven’t done that in the past, email me and I will send you a link where I posted my roof seal project to my motorhome. Water leak is the enemy of any travel trailer, 5th wheel or motorhome. _______________________ P228 - West German

Trapper, 3791RD. Residential fridge. I had enough of the gas/electrics, they don't keep my ice cream cold enough. Priorities, you know. I looked at the Grand Design Solitude. I actually liked it a little bit better, and think it had a slight edge in quality, but at a $15K premium it wasn't worth it. Montana is Keystone's quality line, so I'm not too worried. Ozark, rear step-up living room. That's what gives the room underneath for the rear slide-out. All, I'll need a 350/3500 to tow, definitely dually looking at the numbers. Crew Cab 8' bed. I almost bought a Lariat F450 this weekend but talked myself out of it. I don't really need it for another year or two. So I'll just put the cash aside until then. Old Rugged, I lease a spot near where I'm working. Great place, quiet, affordable, safe. If we were full-time, we'd have to find a solution for the ice cream situation. I've read there are mods that can be done to improve things, but haven't been in a rush to try them yet.
