A couple of engineers developed a gun detector(SmarterEveryDay video)
Interesting and can't wait to see the 2.0 version that can detect from a greater distance.

Cool! I guess. Now design it so it can figure out who carries lawfully and who carries illegally. Under their hoodie. I guess I can see a use for a system like this to prevent a rifle armed person entering a public venue. Maybe.

Yeah, that's the point of this tech, as explained in the video...
It's not to detect concealed weapons, or even openly carried holstered weapons. He even spent a bit of time talking about why wide-reaching electronic searches of people out in public is a Bad Thing.
It's designed specifically to detect guns that are held in the hand, for use in certain secure areas where there shouldn't be anyone with a gun held in their hands, and then not only set off an alert but also relay accurate real-time updates to first responders about the armed persons' current location.
(Although, theoretically, those real-time updates would only be valid until the first armed good guy entered the monitored area, in which case it would begin alerting on them too.)

I guess I could add this feature to my security camera setup at my home.
Maybe someday it might detect someone with a gun approaching, I guess.

Cool video and love how he reinforces the need to protect and respect the 4th amendment. This was designed specifically to only highlight gun + hand interaction and he discusses the the need to protect American citizens from unreasonable search and seizure.
