So, our lawyer now wants us to have a formal HR policy, and reporting process...

Is there an outside company that can be set up for this? We are rather small, and I cannot see any way someone could report anonymously... (Well, I suppose its possible, other than the folks who work directly for me.)

The company I work for outsourced HR to a company called Sidecar. It seems to work fine.

Various Payroll companies offer those services.

Have you consider just shooting the lawyer instead? Smile

Run away from ADP. Run far, run fast. Having had experience with payroll outsourced to ADP, they suck!

There truly aren't words for how bad they are.

My wife works for an HR/payroll company here in SC. Feel free to email me with your contact info and I’ll pass it to her if you’d like.

You can hire a full-time HR professional, contract a Professional Employment Organization (PEO) or contract with a 3rd party HR professional. Your city may have a local chapter of Human Resource Mgmt (SHRM) or similar that you can talk to.

If you just need a few HR procedures here and there, I recommend contracting with a local HR professional to write them for you.

If you also want a more comprehensive ongoing HR solution someone to weigh-in on HR matters as they come up, suggest you contract with an HR organization.

If you want to offload payroll and HR, take a serious look at a PEO.

Unless you’re big enough, no need to hire a HR generalist or specialist.
