https://newsaddicts.com/texas-..._campaign=newsletterThe death of a Texas rancher south of Brownsville, Texas, has spurred a warning from Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller that ranchers in and around the Rio Grande Valley are at risk.
“A tragic and alarming incident occurred near Brownsville, Texas, where a U.S. citizen and Texas rancher was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED),” Miller said in a post on the Texas Department of Agriculture website.
“This shocking act of violence highlights the growing threat posed by cartel activity along our southern border,” Miller said.
Noting that the regional agribusiness community covers both sides of the border, Miller said everyone should be on alert at all times, regardless of where they are.
“I urge all Texas farmers, ranchers, and agricultural workers who travel to Mexico or operate near the border to exercise extreme caution,” he said.
“The Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) is a crucial part of Texas agriculture, and the safety of our agricultural community is of utmost importance.
“We cannot overlook the rising violence that threatens not only lives but also the security of our farms, ranches, and rural communities,” he said.
Miller called on “everyone in the agricultural industry to stay vigilant, remain aware of their surroundings, and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.”

AglifterNot to be the usual cynic, but any family members with a personal history which would make them familiar with IEDs?
Seems like a very odd way for a cartel to kill someone.

Yeah his son {in the interview) has IED experience. He was injured by one while serving his country.
So you think this is some grand scheme by him to knock his dad off.

AglifterI think it’s much simpler to kill someone on a ranch with a rifle, than to source explosives and plant them on a ranch road.

HRKIt says he was killed on the Mexican side of the border, so his ranch is in both US and Mexico?
Unless Saldierna was working with BP and had tipped off the US about cartel activity, Doubt he was the target.
One IED, in a field, on the border in Mexico, what are the odds that it would hit a specific target.

ranger312The cartels probably plant them along routes that the migrants travel, and then demand payment from them for safe passage into the US. A nice dirt path alongside a field looks like a good walking path for migrants coming North.

TigerDoreAre Mexican cartels even known for using IEDs? I thought they prefer a more direct, personal approach.
Assuming they use IEDs (or even know how to make IEDs) I suppose the cartels may have done this expecting that the road was/is used by Border Patrol, ours or theirs.
And Aglifter is not wrong to suspect someone close to this man. Someone who knew his routes.
I hope it is not the latter. I hope it is the bad guys and that we wipe them out, but I do fear a small war with Mexico could erupt since the cartels own Mexico. I am not concerned that we would lose such a war, but I am concerned that we would be distracted while bigger forces in Asia are engaging in gunboat diplomacy.

r0gueSend the military. Secure the border. With the technology available today, not a soul should be able to cross without us knowing, and monitoring what they are doing. AI should have been able to report this in real time.

Time to ramp up drone strikes, and air strikes. Time to put a Delta Squadron permanently at the border to run helo excursions nightly rotating with Devgru. Time to put the 101st there rotating with the 82nd to stop their nightly incursions here.
