In Odin we trust![]() |
Guys (and gals)..... The wife & I are in need of a new mattress. I know, I know, subjective as hell. It's so hard finding something that works. I figured ideas/thoughts from the brain trust couldn't hurt though. There are tons of options these days. Here's what we DO know: both of us like firm mattresses, and we THINK we prefer memory foam. That is based on a mattress we had a decade ago that was a Tempurpedic Rhapsody. I looked, they don't have that model anymore. And by the way, holy crap are they expensive now!!! Not opposed to spending a few thousand on a good mattress if it works for us necessarily, but damn I'm shocked at how much mattresses cost these days. Neither of us has medical needs other than the slow degeneration of spines from, well....life (and heavy lifting haha). So support is good. Looking for recommendations. We know we don't want a plush/soft mattress. I don't want to sink into it. Cooler sleeping is a bonus, I sweat like a whore in church when I sleep, so any recommendations for cooler is much appreciated as well. Queen size. Maybe king, but that would require us to reconfigure the bedroom and it would take up weird space. We could make it work though. That's probably a moot point, either king or queen is usually available in any reputable mattress, so disregard that rabbit trail, I'm stream of consciousness-ing right now. Let me see, anything else I can think of besides firm (and I do mean that, extra firm even) and probably memory foam or hybrids thereof. I eagerly await everyone's thoughts. We have looked at exactly nothing so far. OH!! Limited to "bed in a box" type stuff (or forced to pay $500-700 in shipping in Alaska for un-foldable mattresses, which I guess I'm not necessarily opposed to if it's worth it), or to stock on hand from a couple of local dealers who aren't huge, but do have most of the common brands. Let me have it. _________________________ "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. I’ve gotten a lot of info from these sources, cnet also has a bunch of good YouTube mattress videos: https://sleepopolis.com/ https://www.sleepadvisor.org/ I’m a big guy and prefer a firmer feel too. We’ve been sleeping on a solid latex foam mattress for close to six years. I’ve been very happy with it. I’m thinking the brand is Restonic..?? It was $$$$ ![]() "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

We are going on 15 years (16?) on one of the “original” Costco Novaform memory foam ones. It was just over $400 at the time. It is a “bed in a box” and fit in the back seat of a Jeep Liberty at the time we bought it, maybe 2 1/2’ x 2 1/2’ x 4’. Only “complaint” was it took 2 days to fully expand after opening and had kind of a “new car smell” that took a few days to dissipate. Been VERY happy with it, it is firm but comfortable. Most of the time we’ve had it I was well over 300 pounds and my wife isn’t one of them skinny girls. No sagging or impression whatsoever, it can handle a load. Totally subjective opinion, but since we’ve had it I’ve never been in a more comfortable bed. We go on a trip, we stay at upper mid-range hotels. Nice beds, but always look forward to being back to our bed after a trip. I fully expect it to last us until we move to another state in 3 years or so. Here is the current Costco offering, $520 for a King size, delivered by USPS. Didn’t see anything about AK restriction on delivery. https://www.costco.com/novafor...duct.4000325025.html What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand??? ![]()

Costco for the win! Again. Thanks, we will check this one out. I totally spaced that as an option. _________________________ "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive.
