Those who live in no-ID-requirement states: What is done to verify your identity at the polls?

We used to have to sign a book sort of thing and they'd compare signatures. Though all you would need to do is go with your hand wrapped up in a big bandage and viola you've got your cover story why they don't match. Then every election after they would match.

Now we sign a tablet type screen. Which anyone who's ever tried to sign one of those knows is a complete joke. Everything looks like an illegible mess.

Back during the 2012 election when I lived in CA, I was lined up to check into my polling station; in CA, no ID required, they check your name on a page in a binder then hand you a ballot. A neighbor ahead of me was checking in and told that he must be mistaken, he already voted. Needless to say, there was a confrontation, but he had to walk away , the poll worker was not going to fix the issue.

get my sticker showing I voted and the machine shows me the number of voters up till mine went in,

this last time, we voted early, there were a few folks voting that were escorted to a section of hte room and sat at a table, with a short screen marked Provisional Voter,
and I noticed a pol worker stayed wiht them

In New Mexico, you tell the poll worker your name then your asked to verify your address. We get a ballot and color in the choices,then put the ballot into a machine.

The problem is that in New Mexico you can register and vote same day either early or on election day. No id or proof of residence. Make up a name and address and vote. No cross checks, no anything. Then go to another voting location and make-up another fake name and address and vote again. Repeat repeat.

At one time we did need an id but, the democrats needed a way to stay in office.

And the democrats did a little gerrymandering to stack the deck in their favor. The Republicans took to the courts but an appointed democrat judge tossed the case.

Greymann, that is not what's reflected here. If what you're describing happens, then it'd be in violation of the apparent laws. Of course that's possible, but it seems it would not be the fault of New Mexico's relaxed laws; rather the fault of poor compliance and a lack of enforcement.

Non- compliance.
Our last local election for governor my grandson's girlfriend registered to vote and voted same day. She was asked her name an address. No proof of residence or id.

Yeah, I think I presented my drivers licenses to register. Then you put your signature on your ballot envelope, not even the ballot.

At my polling place in Virginia, they ask to see ID and cross check it against a printed name/address list. I don't know the process for people who don't have an ID because I've never known someone who didn't have an ID. That includes friends who have had DUIs and revoked licenses for driving infractions or driving on suspended/lack of insurance. Every single person I've known without a driver's license had a walkers permit (non-DL ID card).

I'd be surprised if anyone on this forum knows someone that doesn't have a government issued ID card. You need it to buy alcohol; rent an apartment; fly; have a job; enter certain buildings; get a loan; open a bank account; and a million other things I can't think of at the moment.

I’m an election officer in one of the counties. Basically your given a paper with when the board of elections meets and you are encouraged to go state your case.

Pollsters ask for your name, address and signature in PA. Some pollsters carefully examine the latter, while others are nonchalant about it. I always have my voter registration card with me but it's not necessary... just easier than giving the pollsters my address verbally.

My sister-in-law in Rochester MN. showed up to vote and was told she had already voted. No id required to vote, in fact she tried to show them id and they didn't want to see it. As a liberal she is now evidently starting to see what all the fuss about voter id is all about.

Maine is no-id... You state your name and verify address. That's it, no signature, no questions.

You get handed your ballots (Fed, State, Local) and fill in the dots, then you feed it into the scanner under the eyes of the poll workers.

We also allow same day registration, but I do believe you need to show ID for that.
