Need an Electric Coffee Grinder
I'm looking for an electric coffee grinder. I need something that can be dissasembeled for a full cleaning of the entire coffee grind feedway. The only thing that could come apart on my last grinder were the grinding burrs. The ground coffee was gravity fed through a fairly narrow shelf, then into the removeable container. Over time there was a buildup of grinds that hardened, and couldn't be reached by anything I could come up with to try and clean it.

So, what is everyone using, and how do you like it?

I've using this Krups one since college and I graduated in 1993. No sign of giving up.

Baratza Encore for us. Never disassembled it nor have needed to over last couple years of daily use. I’d buy it again if it ever goes wrong. They have good service by all reports I’ve read but we’ve never needed that either.

Wife has been using this for the last 2 years and it has been very dependable. Cleans up easily though I can't comment about a detailed cleaning of it. Bought it because of the recommendations of many forum members.

^^^ Coincidentally, I have that one too, since Dec. '23. Being used nearly every morning, I doubt if I'd have problems with grounds hardening inside it.

Been using a "Magic Bullet" for years. No complaints. Versatile for other uses as well.

Pretty much every generic burr grinder will do the job. I’ve had Capresso, Cuisinart, black and decker, and currently use a Supremo and couldn’t tell the difference between them. I’ve never used one that lets you clean deeper than separating the burr surfaces except for an old hand crank style.

I've never heard of a jam like you are describing. Are you doing anything unusual with beans when grinding? Like adding water, roasting your own, mixing in something besides just roasted beans?

We've had two of these Capressos, they work good and one still in service at a cabin. Other broke when my bride twisted the knob too far.

Our main one now is this Breville, a great grinder but a little more expensive. The touch button controls make it easy to adjust grind and amounts for drip, press, espresso, etc.

Another vote for the OXO grinder, it works great and it’s 99 bucks. Take down for cleaning is easy.

Gearhounds,

I have the Cuisinart and it has worked well for several years. As an early riser,
I would prefer one that didn't sound like I'm grinding stumps.
Any comparisons regarding noise levels?

None of them are especially quiet. When I do have to grind first thing, I’ve wrapped a towel around it to muffle the noise. Have you considered an antique style hand crank model? A really nice one would be spendy but would likely never wear out in your lifetime.

my Krups has been excellent, for the quiet, I put a large dishtowel or two over it as I grand and one underneath it, this absorbs alot of sound

I understand that's a common problem with inexperienced brides. Hope you healed up OK!

I've never needed to disassemble and deep clean my burr grinder.

Running a capful of Urnex Grindz through it a couple times a year helps clear any buildup.

A while back the grounds hung up in the chute right above the removable coffee container. I was able to clean that out pretty easily. This time the blockage is just past the burr grinder on a fairly flat spot that I don't have access to.

I cleaned around the burr grinder, and the unit starts to work, but then the motor just spins and you can hear that the beans aren't moving.
