Was just waiting on my Social Security 1099's. H&R Block software and efile, took all of an hour because I had a little self-employment income to report. I make enough off Dale the Builder that he has to file a 1099 to cover his six, so I have to report it.
Other than that, just military retirement and SS (neither of which is taxable in Maine) so it goes pretty quick. After the standard deduction, I actually had a negative gross income for the State.
Had been having DFAS (admin for my retirement pay) withhold for the State but since Maine changed the rules, I cancelled that and will have a few more bucks in my retirement check plus what The Donald was kind enough to arrange.
Some days, it's good to be me...

Nearly done. Just waiting on one last 1098. Everything else was already received and entered.
(Our mortgage was sold to a different company partway through last year. We received a 1098 from one company for that part of the year, but still need the other.)
I like to get the taxes knocked out ASAP. One less thing to deal with. We have our witholdings figured out nearly perfectly through the diligent use of witholding calculators, to where we typically owe less than $100 total each year. So there's no reason to wait until the last minute.

I did a quick calculation to see if I have to pay again which turned out correct so I'm waiting until April 17.

Ironic, I was fixin to post about this. I prepare my own on line for free. Not 1 single hitch this year. All my ducks in a row and has been accepted by the IRS. Say, Lois Learner doesn't still work there does she ?

For the most part all is done. Waiting to confirm printed 1099 for house matches mortgage companies online numbers. If it matches then I click file and pay Turbo Tax.

Nope. Haven't received any W2's or other Tax Documents. I never have everything I need before mid-March.

Nope. We always owe and that is the way I want it. I will start on it in early April. It takes me 30 minutes or so.

Still waiting for my wife's W2.
I already know that I owe the State a buttload. Ugh. Hopefully I can make most of that up with my federal return.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Last year was the first year in a long time that I didn't have to file an extension. At least ten years, probably more like twenty. This year I don't think I will be able to file by April. Instead, I will get close enough to know about how much I owe, and write a check for 10% over.
It isn't procrastination, I have already started filling in the fields on the Block software, even though I've still not received all the 1099's I expect. I am self-employed, and have multiple decisions to make on how I want to categorize things. I will generally prepare at least four alternative representations of income and expenses. This message has been edited. Last edited by: architect,

Wife has been doing our taxes for about 3 decades now. She files VA state taxes early as we get a refund. Waits until mid April to do federal.

Not yet. LendingClub.com will allow me to import my 1099-OIDs into Turbo Tax after January 31st so I'm waiting.
I still have to manually enter the info from Propser.com. It's a big pain in the ass and wish Prosper would get on board and get importing into Turbo Tax available.

Tried to e-file about a week ago, but notified that IRS wasn't accepting e-file transmittals until 29Jan. If mine doesn't go in by tomorrow, don't know what's happening. Has been straightforward military retirement and SS for a few years now.

Done online and sent Saturday morning. It will be a little while before IRS actually receives/accepts it. Having the refund direct deposited. That typically takes about 5-7 working days from the time of acceptance. There is no income tax on wages/salaries in TN.
