Does anyone have personal experience with this site? It states that it keeps all informaton secure etc. The deal is that certain websites offer a 20 percent discount if you are a physcian, member of the military etc. I passed on the first opportunity.

Helps me get 10% off at Apple. Got some cigars for less using it but can't recall which site. Don't recall any problems with it.

I don't think ID.me really collects anything that isn't already public.

Maybe they have changed. They wanted a copy of my drivers license AND my SSN. That is when I posted here. I already have five years of ID protection thanks to compromises by the Veterans Administration, our local hospital and three or four insurance companies. The thirty dollar saving would have been nice.

At least for active military/veteran status that is not unreasonable, being as ones SSN is their military service number since the late 1960's through early 1970's, depending on branch of service.

Now, if our government wasn't so rickety and so focused on creating more and more bureaucracy, such i.d. confirmation would be a function it could easily fulfill.

Anyway... the SSN thing: My data has been lifted so many times, at least three, incl. SSN, there's nothing I could give ID.me, and could subsequently be lifted, that isn't already out there.

As others mentioned, it's used by Apple to confirm veteran status. I've used it for one other site too, I think Federal BCBS insurance.

Blake Hall & his wife are vehement anti-Trumpers.

While I salute Blake's (the CEO) former service, his desire to keep Fed and State governments as fat as possible and overly controlling puts him at extreme odds with my political stance.

Congressional Dems are investigating how the company's facial recognition software works and how the data is secured. Given the CEO's political views, the Congressional investigation is probably only kabuki theater:

The Office or Personnel Management said the same thing about my twenty-five years of clearance applications and review packages OPM let THE PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA steal.

I won't use ID.me simply because the fed.gov wants me to use it.

FWIW, you do realize that .me is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Montenegro.

just sayin'

Why the hell isn't is .gov -- just to add credibility for those of us who don't go to unknown domains. Hell why not just skip a step and use the ccTLD for Nigeria

There is no privacy.
If you have accounts with major companies and or the government you will be and most likely have been compromised.

The average American has over 100 accounts that have been compromised.

It is as secure as any government-used site.

I was part of the OPM hack (Office of Personnel Management).

Me and many millions of my friends and coworker and people I can't stand. Wink accounts were compromised.

It took them about five months to realize they were hacked.

Other well know hacks:

Facebook
Under Armour
Equifax
Exactis
Marriott
Veeam
Verizon
River City Media 1.37 billion records
Yahoo 3 billion

I could go on for days.

@radioman

The government doesn't own it so it can't be .gov
