400mOberweis ice cream
I’m just wondering how many forum members have had Oberweis ice cream? It really is good stuff but you pay for it. I’m not sure how wide spread the brand is. One of my neighbors used to get Oberweis milk delivered weekly when I was a kid. I enjoyed that too.

cruiser68Some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. I try to have some once a month.

downtownvAre they from Milwaukee? There was an Ice Cream place one of my friends took me to, and the ice cream was served down stainless steel slides. I don't recall the znsmr, but it was one of the best ice creams I've ever eaten—my two connaisseurs- pizza and ice cream.

ugeestaGrew up on it and loved it.
My favorite was the Peppermint ice cream that they would make around Christmas.
I heard they closed their doors. Is that true?

Bulldog7972Their ice cream is great but their yogurt is even better. It’s only sold during Christmas and it’s not cheap but it’s worth it. They are headquartered in Aurora Illinois but they get their milk from all over the midwest including Wisconsin.

Edited to add- they are still open but filed Chapter 11 last year

P250UA5Never heard of it.
I was a Blue Bell or nothing, for years.
HEB's store brand is good too.
Recently tried Tillamook & it might top them both.

RogueJSKOberweiss is the only thing I'll miss from visiting my parents when they lived in Illinois for about a decade.
Best milk and best ice cream I've ever had.

400mYes they filed chapter 11 and then were aquired by the Hoffman Family of Companies and plan on expanding the brand. Their pineapple sundae is almost irresistible.

PASigNever heard of it.
Around here my supermarket go-to is Turkey Hill which makes an acceptable mass produced product far better than Breyers which used to be very good when I was kid but is terrible now. Half of it is not even legally allowed to be labeled "ice cream", it's "frozen dairy dessert".
There is a local dairy up the road called Longacre's that makes an amazing ice cream, it's super rich, dense and just how good ice cream should be. My favorite is the vanilla with peanut butter swirl, the place has crazy long lines from May to September but it's worth it.

1s1kI think it’s excellent but it’s become outrageously expensive in the last two years. Here in St. Louis there are a couple other places that are right at the same level for slightly more than half the cost.
The lines at both places show that most people are thinking the same.

I'm surprised to see you speak so highly of Turkey Hill, based on your following statement.
From what I see, the Turkey Hill line itself also appears to be mostly "frozen dairy dessert" (using vegetable oil rather than cream so not legally able to be called ice cream), and often artificially flavored.
But these may have been recent changes that went unnoticed, as it appears they were bought by a private equity firm several years back, so who knows what sort of cost cutting/profit inflating shenanigans they've instituted lately.
Or they do have a higher end "Natural" line that may be what you're thinking of.

WaterburyBobOberweis isn't available anywhere around here.
The best I've found for mass produced is Perry's, but we only get it when we happen to be where it's sold - western NY and PA.
There are a couple local dairies here that make some really good ice cream.

OgieIn my opinion, Jim Oberweis is a jerk. So no, I don't buy any of his products.

I've been to BB in TX (Brenham?) and Tillamook in OR (Tillamook). I don't have BB in the local market so I buy Tillamook. But I'd buy BB if available. Tillamook is good but they've become real stingy on the ingredients. Dark Cherry no longer has cherry bit, only the cherry taste.
I do like the Tillamook factory over the BB factory. But I think I like the BB ice creams more.

I forgot about the peppermint ice cream. I just did a quick search and it appears it’s available year round now.
