OK, so the question is a simple one: Is it a good idea for an "average Joe" like me - who typically never gets within 50 miles of trouble - to spend the money necessary to become a member of the USCCA? They have 3 membership levels, from $360 to $600 per year.... and of course there are the usual "give aways" for new members. I think it's a good idea, but I'm just not sure it's worth the $30-$50 per month to be a member. And Guys, when answering...I realize this is an excellent chance to slam the USCCA, but please don't do that. That is NOT why I started this thread. THANKS...FredT

Three tiers. What are the differences? Can you get by with one dollar a day, or must you go for the most expensive?

I opted for the basic plan. I intend to avoid trouble, even run away from it but I worried what would happen if I was forced into a confrontation in Portland, or Eugene. With the lunatic District
attornys there I could be in the right but still face charges. USCCA also has coverage for civil actions

The home page explains all the differences between the 3 "tiers". It is well laid out but becomes a lengthy read 'ere long. As for me, I am just concerned about yet another monthly charge on an already overloaded retiree's budget.

Decent article on USCCA vs CCW Safe. I have USCCA but I'm probably going to switch: https://gununiversity.com/uscca-vs-ccw-safe/

If you haven't heard yet, Palmetto State Armory will be opening a bank, credit card, and offering home, auto, and gun (including CCW) insurance within the next 4-6 months. Not saying anything about using one or another....just giving options. I have no relationship to PSA.

Interesting about PSA. I have an umbrella policy on my homeowners policy that covers civil action, both on and off the property. It costs 150 bucks a year. You might want to check on it, and have an attorney review the policy for you.

Remember , the USCCA covers legal defense for criminal and civil actions , bond , and 2 mill for liability . If you go somewhere else that's fine , but know what you are getting .

Interestingly, when the topic of CCW insurance is brought up, cops and defense attorneys that post in the threads advise that it’s a waste of money.

You’ll read mixed reviews, a lot of scare propaganda that Joe Jim Bob would have went to prison without it without a shred of details on how bad the shoot was, but at the end of the day, it’s your money.

Much like soliciting medical advice on the internet, speak with YOUR attorney on what he advises is best for your particular situation.

Wow, PSA is getting huge, dabbling into all kinds of things. Their customer service sucks with what they operate right now, so I personally would be really hesitant to go with what new things they have to offer.

I was a USCCA member way before they started the "insurance" part of the business. They had a nice monthly magazine and a forum of limited value.
A Tim Schmidt started it and heads the organization as I recall. Around that time he was also featured in a number of articles and videos where he was selling seminars pumping what he called Tribal Marketing.
In those, he was proud to say he had discovered an easy money making formula to find people that had a common interest (in things like guns) that got them to spend lots of money because they felt a special bond and they could be easily manipulated. Affinity marketing itself can be a legit business model, but he made it clear he saw this as creating a suckers list that could be taken advantage of, if you knew his secret formula. He'd be glad to share that formula with you, for a fee of course.
If you paid him various fees for his seminars, he could lead you to great wealth too.
Most of that info is hard to find now and a search of his group mostly shows articles from the company itself that he owns or controls now. If you read any of their promotional material and remember his earlier Tribal Marketing pitch, you can easily recognize the inspiration for these products they now offer.

That by itself makes me steer clear of any of his offerings.

I would recommend you locate a good attorney in your state that specializes in self-defense and 2A cases. Make contact with that attorney then place him/her on your speed dial. Make sure your spouse also has their contact info.

I met the attorney I would retain years back - she was teaching a class at the Sig Sauer Academy regarding defensive shoots and the aftermath(s).

This, and I would also become familiar with the required five elements of self-defense in your particular location that can be learned for almost nothing.
Andrew Branca, an attorney with extensive knowledge has a good book you can buy, and even a free shorter book that only costs the price of postage, that you can read to learn the critical information. He also sells a variety of other stuff that you may or may not want to buy but the basic info is excellent.
I'm in now way affiliated with him but here's the link to read the basics if you wish. If you understand those, you will have a more accurate understanding of the subject than 95+% of gun owners.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I don't have anything to do with the USCCA.
