Admit it, you’ve always wanted to crouch down behind a bullet fairing and peg the throttle wide open just to see what 1100 ccs of raw whining power are capable of. We’ve all been there, but not all of us have been treated to the pleasure of such an experience. Honda wants to change that, but without the mess of carburetors or decades-old spaghetti-framed death wobble. Meet the new Honda Hawk 11. It has the neo-vintage look we’ve all been begging for, but with a modern chassis and reliable electronics

This wondrous machine is powered by the same 1100 parallel twin as the venerable Africa Twin and the Rebel 1100. It’s a good solid motor with enough power to have fun, but it’s also a compact and lightweight unit, which makes it ideal for a sport-ish ride. Full details for the bike haven’t been released yet, but you can expect essentially the same 101 horsepower 77 lb-ft engine. Judging by the photos, it even uses the same forward section of the exhaust as the Africa

It looks like the Hawk 11 even goes so far as to share the same steel framework as the Africa Twin and NT1100, and the swingarm looks like it’s cribbed directly from the touring-focused NT. Similarly, the NT’s 17-inch wheels also make an appearance here. For a sportier ride, Honda saw fit to equip redesigned Showa forks and larger Nissin calipers. The bodywork, obviously, is all new, but much of this bike is built from the parts bin, which means it’s an easy shoe-in for production right as it sits

It’s an interesting choice to build a throwback aesthetic sport tourer from the bones of an adventure tourer, but leave it to Honda to continue to make bold choices. The engine is a good one, if not a particularly inspiring one, and the shape is totally awesome, while promoting an upright and comfortable riding position. It isn’t going to set any speed records, but it’ll look hella cool without killing your wallet or back

Honda hasn’t yet announced anything really about this bike, dropping little more than photographs around the web. We don’t know yet which markets will get the Hawk 11, but it’s a pretty good bet that it’ll end up in the U.S. market. Pricing is a total unknown at the moment, but we can make some educated guesses. The Africa Twin starts at $14,499, for example, so I’d wager the Hawk 11 will end up costing around that, maybe slightly more

Honda already sells a smattering of upright naked sports bikes under the lineup name of “neo-sports cafe” and this looks like it would fit right in with them. I really liked my time with the CB650R, and would love a revamp of that bike with a bullet fairing. If you want something with a bigger and more touring-focused ergonomic layout, then maybe the Hawk is the bike for you. I look forward to swinging a leg over one soon.

I think it looks good, but not great.
No experience with the Africa Twin, but definitely sounds like this packs a nice punch out of that 1100cc.

IMO, the Kawasaki RS models pull off the neo-retro look better.

Rear shot reminds me of the BMW F800 series bikes.

I liked the original Super Hawks/RC51’s, that does nothing for me.

Honda probably shouldn’t have named it after a bike with which it shares virtually no traits other than having two cylinders.

Honda trying to cash in on nostalgia whilst being pretty much lazy.

This is a Honda Hawk. The new bike doesn’t remind me at all of the old Hawk or the Super Hawk. If it’s priced the same as the afrika twin that’s even more reason to wonder that they are thinking. Confused

Looks good but if I were going with a cafe racer style of motorcycle I would opt for the new Triumph Speed Triple RR with a 175 hp on tap. Be interesting to see the new Hawk in person, how many bells and whistles she comes with and of course the price.

I'm with Stickman on this. I simply don't care for the styling at all, look how they have the taillight directly above the rear axle. What's the point of not having the seat continue back with the tail light, to the back of the wheel? Why have a foot of space above the rear tire? To make people believe it has 10" of suspension travel? Why no front fender, does whoever styled this ever ride? If so they certainly don't have to clean the headers and front of the engine.

Good grief! Honda comes out with something new and with some innovation and you complain it is not an ancient Hawk? Why all the negativity? Sure, the original Hawk is great. Maybe even the Super Hawk is great. But what is not great is complaining that Honda didn’t duplicate the Hawk. My goodness gracious, 1100 cc in a cafe racer with modern styling? Torque from a twin? Narrow and light and powerful? The license plate frame is designed and intended to come off, if it bothers the owner.

No, no this is about Honda Hawk which is not innovative.... heck Honda has been utilizing this drivetrain for years in other motorcycles and even SxS's. It's more of a (failed) styling exercise.

It's a better looking bike than the one it's named after. However, I'm not real sure why the designers chopped off the most useful portion of the front fender and kept the least useful portion.

As far as the motor, it may have started with the Africa Twin, but Honda has already successfully tweaked it once to be in a cruiser so I'm sure they can tweak it for this market segment.

It's an 1100cc engine but it's only putting out 100 HP from what I read so if you can handle a 600 you should be able to handle the Hawk also. Now a Aprilia Tuono 1100 is a different animal same number of CC's as the Honda but putting out 175 HP which definitely can get you in trouble.

An 1100cc P-Twin will be torquey & not have to be revved to the moon like a 600cc I4.

With a bit of maturity on the wrist, I'm sure it would be pretty quick to adapt to for an experienced rider.

Some of my early longer rides were on a 1440cc V-Twin.
Plenty of torque, but geared more like a diesel (no tach, so not sure when the actual rev limit was) than a sports car.
