Another High School classmate committed suicide
2nd one in 2 years. I was friends with the current one. Don't have any details yet. A damned shame.

I am sorry. A suicide is difficult for all left behind. Prayers for you and his family.

That is brutal and with all that is going on in the world, we are seeing more and more of this. My sincere condolences.

“Our actions may be impeded...
But there can be no impeding our intentions or our dispositions. Because we can accommodate and adapt. The mind adapts and converts to its own purposes the obstacle to our acting.

The impeding to action advances action.

Suicide is the ultimate selfish act.

It's usually a permanent solution to a temporary problem, but the scars and pain it leaves behind in others is also permanent.

My sympathies.

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

I suppose the motives for considering it are many. For me it was hopelessness. I'm gratified now that my plans were eclipsed by other considerations. As bad as life was before......what a difference a little time makes.

Sorry your classmate found a reason uninterrupted to do it.

Sorry to hear that. Can't ever tell what someone might be going through.

Had a few friends almost go this way. I was able to give them a different perspective by explaining my journey through life. How they reflected it upon their experiences was up to them. One is now working full time in Ohio with his family, the other is about ready to start his own business.

Happens too often indeed.

That really is too bad, but sadly, suicide is becoming a more prevalent way of solving perceived problems. Some wise-ass once noted that it was a permanent answer to a temporary question, but mostly we'll never know what drove the person to it.

Without going into details, out of the twenty-two of us in my intake selection squad, three had taken their own lives as I write this. And three had been KIA. My part of the British Army had, and may still have, the highest suicide rate and divorce rate of any of the three services.

My thoughts go out to anybody who has been close to a suicide. I'm one of them - 37 years ago my best pal locked himself in the stockroom of the unit bar and blew his brains out with his service pistol.

I had 3 or 4 in my own HS years suicide their young selves, and several more in Jr. college. Although it's been 50+ years long gone, questions remained unanswered until friends just wearied of asking. The tiny psychic scars remaining now tend to blend in with the onset of senile keratosis as we all ponder the Great Questions.

You make sense. Some see it as the only solution to solve a host of problems.

.

It can be, but some people suffer from severe, clinical depression for so long that they cannot think straight and ending the pain can seem like a rational solution to them.

an ex-girlfriend of mine committed suicide - she locked herself in a steamer trunk that happened to be air tight and unfortunately for her she couldn't get out after she changed her mind

two high school friends did it about 10 years ago

I talked with some classmates about it and they were both at the ends of their ropes for them it was their way of ending the pain -

Went to my 50th HS reunion a few years back and learned a girl I knew who was a junior when we were seniors committed suicide in her late 30's. I knew her pretty well, wonderful, happy person. So much going for her and such a bright future.

Ruined that first night of the festivities. To this day it still pains me deeply.

I try to stay out of controversial topics here, but your statement is....

I'll just choose to disagree with you. For some, it is the only way out of a pain they think they can never escape.
