How far does it search. I did a search in the lair and nothing came up.

I was informed there were already other threads on the subject.

Just curious so I don’t jib jab.

I have never had any luck finding something with the plain search, Advanced Search gives much better results, but sometimes you have to go to Google or another search engine. This implies that Google archives each and every post made here.

The other problem in searching is keywords and vague thread titles. Sometimes you can even search keywords and not get a hit. It’s the obvious job jabs that are really the problem. Obvious to the point that the OP never even looked and posts something that is on the first page. And two posts below the new post is the same thing type stuff.

If I'm reading it right & the same incident.

Both threads have the same 3 words in the same case.

This seems to work well if you don't want to use the forum search function:

Good information to know ... as I was searching for previous threads on buying an electric skillet and found just a little information.

Thus the reason I recently posted my thread looking for one.

I will play around more with the suggestions here.

Yep. That's generally more reliable than the forum's internal search software.

Go to the Google search bar or search page and enter site:sigforum.com followed by whatever search terms you want to use.

For example, search for: site:sigforum.com electric skillet

You can also use quotation marks to further specify your search parameters. The above search terms will return threads with electric and skillet in them, along with words like electrical and griddle since they're similar terms.

Whereas using "electric skillet" in quotation marks will only return threads with the specific phrase electric skillet in them. So you could search for: site:sigforum.com "electric skillet"

This is what works for me here.
  • Use the Advanced Search
  • Enter your keywords, use ONE of the options
  • Select a sub-forum to narrow your results if that makes sense as related to your query.
  • CHANGE the "Order By" to Date instead of the default Relevance.

One and Done! The first and only post. Someone remembered the offender as 'Pistol Pete'.

Maybe someone can re-search it.

I find the SIGforum search tool to work pretty well for me. One puzzle though:

Some searches produce many pages of results, with a few finds per page. And some of those pages have zero finds. How come is that? (as the Car Guys used to say).

^^ THIS ^^

In particular, the last step can generate 10x the search results. Don't know why, but it has repeatedly done so for years.

I've always experienced mediocre results with the internal search engine.
Sometimes good but sometimes nada nothing especially frustrating if you are trying to avoid double posting a new thread.
Google as mentioned can be better sometimes.

Better yet: never use anything google.

You can use that same nomenclature mentioned earlier on duckduckgo (and perhaps other search engines) as well.
