It is if you can deal with the cold. Wisconsin during the time I lived there was live and let live.
People down here laugh when they see me on those occasional 40-50 degree days. They ask me “Mr. Trapper189, aren’t you cold?” I say, “No, I’m wearing pants and socks today. I lived in Wisconsin for 20 years and this is motorcycle riding weather.”

goose5Only spent one day last time, but I really liked Nashville. My two favorite towns that don't make the population cut is St. Peter, Minnesota, and Poulsbo, Washington.

San Diego has a lot more oasis' of conservatism than most people in this state care to admit or, aware of. If anything, its fairly centrist for a metro-urban community.

Given the times we are now in, I would only consider moving to, or living in, towns with less than 50K in population.
I'll agree with this, but it's not very big and IMO barely qualifies as a city, more of a large town. For the UP, though
I guess it's the biggest thing around. We've definitely enjoyed every visit that we've had there...It's a nice town in a beautiful setting.
Given the location and climate, I doubt you guys have much of a problem with homelessness up there, either. It gets cold in northern a Indiana, but nothing like the UP. We have a few regulars down here that we deal with, but the smart ones typically find a way to get incarcerated around early November and winter in the jail.
When I hear city, I think population of about a million or more. There aren't many of those that I really have any desire to visit. I hate crowds and congestion, and that's before you even consider crime rate, higher prices, and all the other negative stuff associated with urban areas. I like living in the sticks, and would live even further out if I could find a place that I could afford.
I grew up in a city with a population of 1.3 million, but that was in Europe and the cities over there are very different from here. There's lots of crime, but less violent crime. The public transit systems are vastly superior to anything I've encountered in the US, and the city centers are much more accessible as a pedestrian. Given the choice, I'd still pick living where I live now over living there, but if I had to pick between a city here or a city there, I'd definitely go with the European one.

The last time I was in Louisville, was 20 some years ago, going to Churchill Downs for a day of horse racing. At that time the city and the race track were shit holes. Unless it's changed dramatically, I'd cross that off the list.

2BobTannerI live here in Lousyville, and I can truthfully say to stay away. We are coming up on our 5th year of RECORD MURDERS, and local government isn’t doing squat.

hberttmankTulsa OK has some rough parts like any big city, but still has good areas. Some of the suburbs like Broken Arrow, Jenks and Owasso are nice. Very gun friendly state and lots of ranges to shoot.

armedprofI travel around a bit for work and the places I go that I really enjoy are Lexington KY, Nashville TN, Knoxville TN, Charleston SC.
DC and the surrounding areas will suck the life out of you, but that should be no surprise to anyone.
I have found that smallish cities that have a major university seem to be pretty good places.
I live just south of Charlotte, it is a pretty good place.

sig229-SASAlmost any of the small towns in the mountains of western NC. We just love being away from large cities.

Paddy314Born and raised in Louisville. Sad to say, stay away. It’s a dangerous place. Lexington and Knoxville are nice. Not really big cities, more like large towns.
