The wife and I are currently in Mexico (Cozumel). There is no sign of Carona virus here. Restaurants are open, dive trips are awesome and tons of toilet paper in the markets. There are lots of cancellations, and no cruise ships coming in. But no panick (yet).

We are due back the 26th. I am monitoring news, Homeland Security, and US Embassy websights. Any other sites I should be looking at? All in all, if it werent for our dogs, we would ride this out here.

Likely because they aren't testing for it. Razz

I wouldn't bet on there being no Covid 19 in Mexico. State Department and CIA have good info also but more general. Not sure if they are listing up to date stuff on the current problem.

I would be concerned about new regs that could be in place by the time you come home. Things are changing daily. Even hourly. I would consider coming home now. I know it sucks to bail on such a trip but things are changing.

Do you have a couple of hundred USA dollars in small bills? Our money talk in Mexico if things go south.

I've spent time down there Akumal and Tulum mostly. Done a bunch of ocean diving out of Akumal and cenotes in that area.

Have fun and I hope you get home without any issues.

I suspect it isn't that easy, even now.
Who knows what it will be like in a week or two.
Right now Mexico is showing a low rate but how accurate are the numbers.

the southern border was closed - you probably won't get in, and if you do you'll likely be sent to isolation

best plan is to stay in place until this thing burns out or the border opens

Yes and no. US citizens can still enter the US from Mexico.

Most closers of our boarders with other countries exclude US citizens returning home. You may have to self-quarantine though.

My question would be how are planning on getting home? The airlines are canceling more flights everyday. I would be concerned that the airline might cancel my flight. Good luck!

That would appear to be correct (93 confirmed as of now).

What he said. I'd check the airline www site every day, your flights may have changed.

We're flying United to Helsinki at the end of April for a Viking cruise that is likely to be canceled. United never told me, but when I checked the www site I learned our Franfurt flight now leaves from Dulles, not Chicago.

Dulles was named as one of the airports to accept international flights. They are shuttling all international flights to a few airports.

One of my favorite places on Earth. Been there several times diving. All I can give you are my prayers that you have no trouble getting home.

I just returned from a week in Nassau, The Bahamas. While we were there, concerns about being able to get back into the US were widespread throughout our group. A few left early.

There was no issue returning to the US via Newark, NJ yesterday. Up until the day we left, there were no confirmed cases in the islands; now there is one.

There are as of today 93 confirmed cases in Mexico. There are many more in Europe, yet US citizens are still being allowed to return from Europe, right?

I guess it all boils down to how lucky you feel. The rules change daily, at least. Are you willing to chance that the status quo will not change for another week?

Outbound is Dulles to Frankfurt on United, but coming back is still showing Frankfurt to O'Hare on Lufthansa. Our original and the current outbound flights are on 787s, it'll be be my first time in one.

I could but you wouldn't want to see the fuel bill!!!!! I take yachts to Cancun (Isla Mujeres) all of the time. Figure 4,000 gallons of diesel round trip, $10k in fuel, plus crew, food, plus customs fee, for a 60-70' motoryacht. Plus the fee to charter it (around $25k for the week), which my owners don't charter theirs out, strictly private. I've done the trip many times. It's 3 days down from Fort Lauderdale and 3 days back.

A friend of mine flew back from Ireland on Monday 3/16/20 after spending two weeks there and they simply asked him if he went to Europe and said no, they didn't test him or quarantine him or anything. However, things are changing daily and that may change tomorrow. You will always be allowed to return home, but may have to self quarantine or whatever.

Yeah we booked the earliest flight home we could get (Saturday) things are shutting down here. Most tourists have left. We are worried our favorite dive operator and other businesses wont make it.

Fingers crossed we get home w/o incident. First to Houston (Hobby) then Nashville. As of today, neither airport is screening, but we are prepared for a bad trip home. Then the self quarantine. I think we are eating top ramen for the next two weeks!
