iPhone "other" memory is taking too much space - Problem solved! Login/Join

****Updated below in a post****

It's taking 21GB of the 32GB available on my phone.

Been doing some reading and it appears I cannot erase stuff from "other." My apps and pictures probably take up 5-6GB of that memory. Basically, my phone is maxed out.

Any suggestions besides getting a new phone?

I have a iPhone 7 32GB. Not trying to upgrade until at least the new iPhone comes out and prices drop on the newer to me models which I'll be certified refurb from Apple.

You could try erasing any App's that you are not using.

Just because you can,
doesn't mean you should

Get the icloud storage for $.99 a month and put photos and anything else you can in the cloud and not on the phone.
This also protects you if you lose the phone or have a major technical melt down.
You can buy the smaller memory phone and save a lot of money there and store a lot of other crap for almost nothing elsewhere.

My mothers iPad was maxed out and had a ton of "other". I did the typical work arounds with clearing caches, deleting apps...etc, none of it worked. I ended up backing everything up then performing a factory restore, most of the garbage disappeared, it cleaned up about 8G of space and seemingly isn't missing anything after a few weeks of use.

Amazon will give you 5GB of photo and video storage or, if you have Prime, 5GB of video storage and unlimited photo storage. That’ll let you pull at least 5GB off your iPhone at no storage cost.

I have the Apple 50 GB for $.99 month but according to my phone storage screen, my apps and pictures aren’t taking up much space. The “other” won’t let me see what exactly is taking up so much memory.

Photos and videos are not the problem and storing those on iCloud is not the solution. My wife's phone is having the same issue and I'm going to have to do the backup and restore solution that MikeGLI suggested.

Photos and videos in a bunch of old text messages can add up, I've seen family members with hundreds of useless years old texts on their phone, many containing photos or videos. Save the photos from text to your photo album if desired otherwise delete.

Backup and restore.

And for those looking at new phones...
With the phone being most peoples most used electronic device I never understood cheaping out on memory. I usually buy the most available but I only trade up every 3 or 4 years so the cost... spread out, is not so bad.

On my "X" I currently have 2,834 songs, 34,121 photos, 96 apps, 17 books, 28 GB of documents/data, copies of all my e-mails and contacts, and still have 128GB free space.

I had a thread on this: https://sigforum.com/eve/forums...935/m/7330030274/p/1

I did not find any solution short of resetting / wiping the iphone. It took me several hours to wipe the phone and get it up and running (apps installed, set up email etc, whatever). Also, note that while I did a backup, I could not restore any data (pics, music, whatever). It really was an exercise, for me, of wiping and re-installing everything from scratch.

That being said, the method worked for me and the phone has been working fine since. Other consumes about 1.5GB (down from 7GB on a 16GB device). No need to upgrade my phone or anything.

Apple screwed the pooch here - Other gets corrupted or something and no way to force a purge.

Make sure you are deleting updates as they will take up space on the phone.

Problem solved!

Was talking to my buddy about it and he said there's an update available. I updated the phone and backed everything up on iCloud. Memory use down to less than 50% of capacity.

It didn't make much space but I did so. I figured that it would be less distractions. Did I really need Offer Up? Nah.

Clear out your old text. Especially any attachment in a text. When you text a pic/meme/vid etc. it takes up storage. I recently had similar issue with no memory left. This is what I figured out. Once I took the long time to clear the attachments I had plenty of memory left. You have to click each one you want to delete individually so it takes some time.
