This is Nick Tomboulides, Executive Director of an organization called US Term Limits. Powerful stuff.

Cant help but notice very few in attendance. These are no laughing matters and I think he should again speak to the entire house. While hes reading from his notes, he needs to be allowed more time to speak, point blank into their faces. Not 1 of them should be allowed looking away, down, fiddleing with hair, papers, laughing, remain with respect in tune with the speaker. Two terms and they should be returned to civilian life. No further contact with those, busy with the business of the people. Two terms, not a day there after.

Good testimony. It will likely fall on deaf ears... but I'll send a copy to my Congress critter.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I guess you have to assume that the voters can't make good decisions on their own.

The real issue is that committee and leadership assignments go to the silverbacks. So there is a real loss to the constituency from 'throwing out the bathwater' if they then get stuck with a 'baby' that wields zero clout in DC instead of a mover-and-shaker who guides committees and hearings.

Personally, I'm against term limits. I live in a fantasy-land where citizens who have properly registered to vote don't need my help in limiting their choices, which when you get down to brass tacks, is all that term-limits does.

Only argument against term limits that I have heard that makes me wary is the fact that once installed that the career staffers and lobbyist would be the ones with all the institutional knowledge so the new elected official would be inclined to listen to them thus transferring more power to them. Hence, we are trading a corrupt system for a more corrupt system IMHO. Probably a better system would be to make them live under the laws they pass and get rid of all their special privileges'.

That's a legitimate argument as is the argument that you don't change the fundamental structure that the Founder's set up without a really good reason and a whole heck of a lot of thought.

Everybody thought that the 17th amendment was a great idea (direct election of senators), but it has had a disastrous effect, in my opinion.

I have waffled over the years on term limits, but right now I am firmly in the 'No thanks' camp.

Change my mind Smile

From my understanding it is Congress that has to vote on Limiting terms, etc. We all know that will more than likely not happen. Why can not this be put up for a vote by the people during a National Election ??? God Bless Smile

I am in favor of term limits!!!

3 terms for congress critters, one term for senators.

Along with that, since some figure that the staffs will remain the same and have too much influence on the newly elected, include a change of staff along with the elected.

Or, perhaps a better solution would be to return to the original method of selecting senators! And limit those, too.

Do you not remember 2016? If we went by the total popular vote, you would be living under Hillary. Right now, the republic-style government is the only thing keeping the commies at bay.

They all should serve 2 terms:
1 in office
1 in prison

Oh I do remember, however if we leave it up to Congress to decide if THEY should have term limits, they will never vote for it. However I am sure that most of the general voting public will like to see term limits for ALL members of Congress and would vote for it. Again just my opinion. God Bless !!! Smile
